I ahve looked back and I can't find any year when the winner of the Spring Valley preseason tournament went own to win state in their division. Can anybody correct this if it's wrong? I brought this up after the tournament but nobody had anything to say.

I don't know what the history is but if FM can stay healthy, they may go wire-to-wire. I'm sure JI is looking for a rematch. FM may be pulling for Wando so they can get some revenge for that sole blemish.

lpaf, what's WA have to say? You gonna be there at the end?

Keep in mind the JI team in the final at Viking Cup or for that matter the entire tournament was not healthy. Many of "starters" did not play all or any, in some cases, of the games. (not meant to take anything away from FM as they went home with the trophy and were the stronger team on that day) JI will be ready for Fort Mill or any other teams that come their way in the playoffs. Good Luck to all.

You know, in the three years or so that I've been posting I have never made a prediction about WA and the playoffs, but I'm willing to say that the WA team has as good a chance as any of the best 4A teams to win state in May. They have great individual talent and are capable of breathtaking athleticism. The overall team play will improve as the season goes on. Region play will hone their talents and I would not at all be surprised by losses in regular season to Wando or James Island. (An advantage to playing in Region 7 is the opportunity to play twice in regular season the team you will have to beat to get to state.) A good friend of mine suggested that my posts to present about West Ashley had left the shield of pride at the armory. Such was not my intention. They have been the best team in this state in 4A girls soccer for the last 3 seasons and can prove to be the best team this year if they want to.

ps: Any bets on who will finish second in state?

JI was missing four impact players in my opinion. Some were not healthy enough to start or did not play much. The girls who did play did an awesome job. One starting midfielder did not play the entire weekend due to injury. It may not have made a difference as FM is tough and talented. We have our tough games coming up in April down here and WA and Wando are both not to be counted out. JI has yet to get past them in the playoffs and will have to work hard to do it this year. Hopefully all our teams will get and stay healthly for some great playoff games. Looking forward to some great soccer.

No, not Orangeburg-Wilkinson. It's a rhetorical question designed to spur thought or at least pithy responses.

(ps: I'm using parentheses again so the others can't see the post.)

Now you're starting to get under my skin with your piedmont ways. Don't go deliberately misspelling the names of our lowcountry schools. Remember that when the movie folks looked to film the Electric City they decided Walterboro was more picturesque.
