Stella Chisholm has announced her retirement as head coach from the girls program at James Island Charter High School. The principal, athletic director, and I congratulate her, wish her the best of luck, and thank her for the service and dedication she exemplified to her players. In her four year tenure, through her organizational and managerial talents and the hard work of her teams, she helped turn James Island into a state-wide powerhouse. Coach Chisholm always took the team approach to her coaching style and fostered teamwork in her program. She is deeply grateful to Jason Duncan, Collin Phillips, Rad Monferdini, Howard Ashe, and John Peters who worked together with her as a team, and to all of the 52 girls who played for her.
Under Coach Chisholm’s leadership, the girls program finished twice ranked third in the state and never finished lower than sixth. The team won two region championships, and amassed a combined record of 68-17-1. She has been an educator for 23 years and always emphasized the importance of education to her players. In that time she has coached three different sports. Every player who has played for her has gone to college. She has also this year been chosen as her school’s Teacher of the Year.
Coach Chisholm was a great person to work and coach with. She’s also one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Good luck in all you do and enjoy your retirement. You’ve earned it.
