Most of the schedules in VII have the Varsity Girls playing home while the Varsity Boys play away & vice versa. What a shame that students will not be able to support each other, parents can not support both teams & parents with both sons & daughters playing varsity can not see both children play! Shame on the ADs & coaches who encouraged and permitted this!!

Some varsity coaches have to be at the JV games because their assistant may not be part of the district and they are the "school representative". They may wish to see their JV team play, scout potential players to move up, or learn what the opponents may have coming in the future.
What happens if the JV coach gets sick? Who runs the team if they are away with the varsity boys? The boys JV coach who knows nothing about the girls? That's not exactly giving the young girls much priority.
What about girls with parents that can't get off of work and over to see their senior daughter play her last year? 5:30 is difficult to make if you have a distance to travel, much less in 5:00 traffic.
In the past five years I've known of two sets of brother/sister pairs compared to nine sets of sister/sister. What happens to the parents if they have to decide to see the youngest daughter play or the oldest? Don't even get me started on what could happen on the back of a bus with mixed company! We don't want any junior soccer players running around in nine months, either! Or would you rather the district pay for four busses instead of two in order to seperate them?
The majority of the state is doing this now because it makes sense. Coaches get to run their programs in the same location on the same night. Sickness of coaches can be acounted for and solved. Girls and guys are seperated for safety and liability's sake. The ADs and Coaches put the players and the program ahead of a grumpy parent or two. For this, they should be applauded. It's not always about you.

WELL SAID! All points are vaild, you want to blame someone you can start with me, This is something we as coaches have been trying to do for the last 5 years. I made the schedules for all Reigon 7 schools and we as coachs had a meeting and all were in favor. If you look at pros and cons the pros are far greatet than the cons.

Region 3 has been doing it this way for as long as I can remember (the last 6 years). It is the best way..... for the reasons that Debile point out above.
Unfortunately I have only gotten to see the boys team play only a handful of times over the past few years....but that's the way it goes. I also have sympathy for parents who need to "split" as one goes "away" to the daughter's game while the other stays "home" for the son's game.
There is no perfect solution, but the way it is now makes sense from the coaching perspective.

...and I do sympathize with parents. Having a boy and girl, each on varsity, cannot be an easy thing. Surely one is to have their feelings hurt. But you know, such is life. If that is biggest thing you have to complain about an athletic department-they must be doing a pretty good job. Praise the Lord for well run programs and respectable leaders.

If you want my opinions about the Athletic Department - that's a new topic so I'll stick with this.
First, I haven't heard of any "juniors" running around because of bus incidents related to coed athletic events - soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, swimming. I take offense to your making such a general statement regarding the morality of my children.
Next, "girls and guys are seperated for safety and liability's sake." If this were so, ALL public schools and buses would be single gender. What is wrong with separating boys & girls on buses or having coaches involved with their players & not sitting in the front seat? Have the girls in the front, boys in the back, coaches in the middle. But beware of homosexual activity! You know what MIGHT happen if you put boys with boys & girls with girls. Right?
Most importantly, I think the biggest injustice is in the loss of support Varsity teams will have. As an upper-class student, you go to games to cheer Varsity peers, as 9th & 10th graders, you normally cheer JV players. As a high school athlete, I know that perfomance is not based soley on hard work, dedication and practice but it is also influenced by other factors. One factor that has a major impact on performance is fan attendance at games - including the boys' team support of girls' team and the girls' support of boys'. Imagine a football or basketball game without the support of the players' peers.
I think it is good if coaches can see potential players but come on. This is high school! Besides, I was under the impression that JV games were Mon & Thurs while Varsity games were Tues & Fri for this reason. Silly me!
Now, are you coaching for your own self-importance or are you in this for our children? "The ADs and Coaches put the players and the program ahead of a grumpy parent or two. For this, they should be applauded. It's not always about you." And you couldn't be more right! It's ONLY about the players, our children, NOT the coaches & and certainly not the ADs. Ask the kids who they would rather support! It's their peers. Ask the kids who support them the most. Guess what - it's me - not you!
Finally, I will not "praise the Lord for well run programs and respectable leaders" because I do no feel that well run programs & respectable leaders are synonymous or that well run programs deserve God's praise.
I say thank God for self-respecting and respectful children and thank you to coaches who lead by example. You must teach respect through respect.

You do not think that well run programs and respectable leaders are synonymous?
So that would mean you either feel poorly run programs and respectable leaders or well run programs and respectless leaders are synonymous. No matter how I squint my eyes or turn my head, that just doesn't make sense. Wait a sec...no, not even reading it backwards does any good.
Homosexuality produces babies? I've so much to learn!
We could travel deeper into this subject and say that most JV and Varsity squads run the same formation in order to promote continuity. What good would come from watching the boys after your game if they play more defensive minded ball? Wouldn't you want to watch how a Varsity squad runs the same system of play in order to learn more about your own execution?
And Katya, I'm crushed about your lack of concern for the kids. You write about coaching for our own self-importance, but would you have some high school student get out of school at 3:45, rush through traffic to make it home by 4:00. Then the poor kid kisses his mom hello, speaks to his siblings, completes the masses of homework and studying in under an hour, and finally bolts out the door to watch his peers play from 5:30-9:30? And what about overtime!?! No, no, we coaches and AD's have thought not about the X's and O's, but Jill's and Joe's. We are blazing a trail in this new world to provide a suitable environment for our parents and community to enjoy.
To my count, the score is:
People who like their programs to travel together: 9,718
People who don't: 1
You can argue with me, but surely not the numbers. I'm going to pray that the good Lord give you wisdom or discernment. Let me know how it works out. I love you.

I asked a local coach about this and his response was similiar to Le Debile's with one addition. He said that they have had nonregion varsity doubleheaders and the girls' always voted to take two busses so they could get home earlier. They enjoyed playing the early game on the road and saw it as a chance to get home at a decent hour from at least one road game. The only dissenters apeared to be those girls who had boyfriends playing in the nightcap. He did say he had never had siblings playing on each team.

If a parent has two children in the high school program, their perspective would be completely different if:
1) Boy on varsity & Boy on JV 2) Boy on varsity & Girl on JV 3) Girl on varsity & Boy on JV 4) Girl on varsity & Girl on JV 5) Girl on varsity & Boy on varsity 6) Girl on JV & Boy on JV
You can't please everybody.
Also, regarding transporting the opposite sexes to and from games together.....I am aware of a middle school program that had to issue suspensions due to "inapropriate fraternization" among the student athletes on the bus ride home.
