2A/1A Public schools competing against private schools = inequality. Why? Money and location. It takes a lot of money to play club soccer and private schools are full of kids who can afford it. These so called “privileged kids” have the bucks to play with the best clubs, who generate enough revenue to hire the best coaches, who get to participate in the best out of state club tournaments, who during the summer go to the best soccer camps. Not only that but the location of BE, CC, and SSC, are all within a few miles of the Elite clubs of SC. Public 2A/1A schools are not located in Greenville and Charleston and do not have easy access to clubs like CESA. It is absolutely absurd that SCHSL makes our smallest public schools compete against this.

I understand your concerns about private schools getting a broader geographical base to attract. Public schools do the same thing. We have a school in the upstate that has quite a few of their "star" players that live outside their attendance lines. They are there on special permission. Is this fair? I am not sure how I feel about that. I am sure some of the parents chose the school because of their soccer reputation, but I am also sure most of the parents just wanted their children to attend a school with a good academic record. Would they have the same winning percentage without these players or go as far as they have in state? No, but the education of the children is first and foremost.

yall are just upset that yall are not still in the playoffs and we and two other private schools are!!! AM is very good two and they are still in it, so it shows that not all private schools are as good as public schools!!! Oh, and for all you who think that all private school kids play club soccer, your wrong!!! we dont have any players on team that play club soccer, or have played club soccer in the past three years!!! yall are just bad!!!

It's nice to see that for private schools, just like public schools, spelling and punctuation do not count.

I never said we were 1A or 2A and we are still in the playoffs, so get your facts before you try to abuse someone.

The last 5 matches between Woodruff and SSC = 5 victories for Woodruff, the most recent this season was 6-0 Woodruff (and only 1 match was even close over the past 3 seasons).

Last year, Woodruff split with CC.

I am NOT arguing that public schools CANNOT compete in some cases with private schools; I am arguinig it isn't fair. And most players for CC and BE are club players or have club experience. I suspect SSC is not filled with club players, but SSC has not had the history of success equal to CC or BE either. Thus, SSC's success in the playoffs this year should be applauded.

The motto of the High School League is, "An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules."

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that all athletes/schools in line for coronation should compete according to the SAME rules.

While they are very admirable for building strong programs, schools that do not have the same very specific attendance zone and recruiting rules as other member schools are NOT, in point of fact, competing according to the same rules. So, by the SCHSL's own mission statement, should they compete for the same crown?

For the record, I don't have a dog in this fight, and I certainly don't have anything against BE, CC, or SSC...just making an objective observation in response to the question.

I agree that private schools should not play in the public school league. I also think that public schools should not play private schools since they don't have boundaries for attendance.

Just for the record...Barnwell isn't a private school and im pretty sure Gilbert isn't either

A good coach, ANYWHERE, can train a team over four years to be competitive. Look at all the coaches for the private schools who "unfairly" beat you every year. Stop complaining and start training. And get a new coach.
