To those who willing gave up their time to help with the State Championship Games. All we heard from many many players, coaches and fans we want to go to the Graveyard and play, with the request in hand we went to work. I want you to know what these Volunteers had to do for everyone else to enjoy it.

(1) Work with USC and the SCHSL to come to a workable deal for use of the Graveyard. This was not accomplished with one phone call either. Both parties were open to the idea but it didn't just happen!

(2) Begging for rosters to be sent in so programs can be made and doing our best to see that they are done correctly.

(3) Constantly asking for volunteers to help at the games!!! Some people are deaf though!

(4) Friday 8:30 am meeting at SCHSL to go over games and what is needed. To be truthful we were sweating it out because we didn't have alot of VOLUNTEERS! 9:30 am - to SAMS CLUB TO PURCHASE $850 WORTH OF WATER , GATORADE, HOTDOGS, CANDY etc for the girls games - go to the bank to get two days worth of change- to the stadium to set up PA, check the field and check the entrances and set up make shift concession stand. Take three trucks with coolers and go get ice to cool everything down and use.

(5) 1st game have people in conession stand - pressbox - players entrance - on field to substitue players and get teams introduced before and after games and help with the award cermonies- move everyone along - soon as one game ended get moving to the next- all go to concession stand to help others out at each halftime.

(6) Go home after taking inventory (and dividing up duties for Sat. Average time of going to bed 1:00 am.

(7) 8:30 am Saturday morning at Sams again to purchase $888.00 worth of supplies - load coolers to try to get ice - cover stations start games - during games back to Sams for supplies and another ice run.

(8) Games end, clean up areas we were responsible for, load up any excess supplies to be hauled to Charleston for use at the North/South games. Went to eat, and I live in Anderson so it is 2:15 am when my wife and I got to bed!

You had coaches who are two of the most successful in our state ever, year in and out busting their humps in the concession stand, hardly ever getting to sit and watch games:

Coaches Hosea and Ridlehoover. These were there when it started and were cleaning up at the end.

Coaches Kevin and Kyle Heise
Coach Will Eudy
Coach D. Schroer
Coach A. Hartin
Coach F. Ridlehoover
Coach W. Hosea
Coach H. Betcher
Coach R. Rudd
Coach P. Huesinger
Coach D. Smith
Linda Smith
Coach S. Ruggles
Theresa Ruggles

A list was put out of the others who we graciously thank for their help throughout the weekend. We all have things to do but IF everyone helped it would be a whole lot easier.

A lot of coaches took personal days on Friday to work and that is why it is more than a little puzzling where some of the others are when you have to back up commitments to help.

They sure don't mind complaining if they don't get something or things aren't going to suit them!

From the concession money comes the Milestone Coaching awards we give. All-State Certificates, North-South Rings for coaches and help with the N/S game expenses.

Next year I hope we all show up to help, it's our organization so let's all help it. We even had coaches play in a championship game and come back to help. Everyone needs to start doing their part now!!!

A special thanks to Brookland-Cayce HS and Dreher HS for providing ice, coolers, and other products for the State Championship games.

JUST TO ECHO WHAT COACH SMITH HAS SAID AND ALSO TO PLEAD WITH LOCAL COACHES(ESPECIALLY CLOSE TO THESE EVENTS) TO LEND A HELPING HAND.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO APOLOGIZE FOR NOT MAKING IT UP MYSELF AS OUR TEAM HAD THEIR AWARDS BANQUET I HAD TO PREPARE FOR.

JUST AS I THINK THERE SHOULD BE SHOULD BE A LARGER GROUP OF COLUMBIA AREA COACHES AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS(AS LONG AS THEY ARE IN COLUMBIA) I ALSO THINK THE CHARLESTON COACHES SHOULD ADOPT MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AT THE NORTH- SOUTH, BUT ALAS, AS COACH SMITH SAYS, THAT IS NOT THE WAY IT IS.

ANYTIME I HELP OUT WITH ANYTHING, IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME PEOPLE(THOSE LISTED) WITH VERY FEW EXCEPTONS THAT ARE THERE AND THAT SADENS ME. I KEEP WONDERING WHEN THE DAY WILL COME THAT I SEE HADICAPPED RAMPS INSTALLED TO HELP WILLIAM, FRANK AND DICKIE GET AROUND UP THERE.

AGAIN, SORRY GUYS I COULDN'T MAKE IT AND CHARLESTON AREA COACHES PLEASE CONTACT TOM REILLY TO SEE WHAT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO TO HELP WITH NORTH-SOUTH.
