Can a player play in two SCYSA state championship tournaments in one year? More specifically, could a player who is playing "up" in the Fall for a U-15 (or older) team and who participates in either the Challenge or Classic Cup in December drop back to a U-14 (or younger) team in the Spring and participate in the Spring Challenge or Classic Cup the following May?

No, a player cannot play in two state cups in a SCYSA calendar year.

Young (13yol)ODP Magen McElveen played on my Sumter United girls U18 as a forward in fall 2002. We only got to the first round 1l/2D .Then she played for CSC U13 Nightmares in Spring 2003,and help them get to the State Championship But couldn't play that weekend deu to the "RULES" if she did CSC would have won the state Cup so I was told.

It makes it hard for me as a Coach/Her because this fall I have to decide at the last minute will I let her play or not in the First round Cup this Fall. A BS rule I think now if she played in the same age group in fall 02/spring 03 that makes sense.

So the bottom line mite be for her is U18 Fall 03, JV boys in Spring 04, ODP 03/04 and maybe as a guest player in some Tourneys in Spring 04 Classic.

Now you can protest SCYSA but it will cost you $250 and kiss it bey bey. And I was told by a NESCA board member that there was a Girl from Lexinghton in 2001 or 2002 that paid the $250 and whent on to play in both SCYSA State Cup.

Now I wounder is it the same rule, If a "GIRL" plays in fall in the state round. And then plays for the "BOYS" in spring in the SCYSA state cup just wondering?

I'm not sure that it is such a bad rule. I think it keeps a lot of players from being moved around, and therefore opportunities for more players to gain state cup experience. The players work too hard all season, to have someone come in and replace them at state cup.

Our programs in SC should balance player development and winning games. Teach them how the older ones play, and not take shortcuts just to win games. For the younger players, there will be plenty time to win.

If I am not mistaken...

The official USYSA season does not end until after the National Championships in the summer, whether your team makes it or not. For most U15-U18 teams the season unofficially ends in December of the previous calendar year. Team rosters are frozen, I believe in early November. Should a player be allowed to be on two rosters simultaneously? Of course not.

The rule is a good one. It keeps the respective state champs from going out and finding ringers from other teams that may improve their chances of winning at regionals. (Of course, any coach that would actually do this would be acting reprehensibly, in my opinion. But, I also wouldn't put it past some coaches I know.)

If a player is playing up to an age group that, in most cases, will only have a Fall season even though their "age appropriate" age group plays in the spring also, they (and their parents) need to be made aware of the consequences
