A couple of weekends ago I took my U18 boys and U14 girls teams to the HHBSC Wendy's Soccer by the Sea tournament in Hilton Head. It was a beautiful weekend with great soccer weather. The venue was also above average. However, the organization and management of the tournament left alot to be desired. I talked personnally with the tournament director about our scheudle and in less than 24 hours I had three completely different schedules (both times and fields). My team manager for the girls got a call at 7:15 am wanting to know how soon we could be at "our" 8:00am game. We were scheuled to play at 12:30pm. We got to see lots of the island because we went to four fields before playing one game and spent much time on the phone with the director trying to figure out where we were playing. In his defense, his father was gravely ill in the week prior to the tournament. But no one from the club seemed to step up to the plate and take charge.

Did any else have a similar experience? I know that in the 8+ years that I have been involved with travel soccer this was the worst tournament experience that I have ever had. Hilton Head is a great place to have a tournament. But it needs to be better organized and much better run. This needs to include the scheduling the communication and the prep of the fields. (yes we played at the middle school field that had not seen a mower in a long time)

Good luck to the HHBSC with trying to fix the problems with their tournament. I just know that I will never take a team back there!!!!

Yea i know what you mean. My team also had some problems but not as bad as it seems for you. We played on a field that was the thinnest field i have ever played on. There was about 5 yards cut off of both sides to make for some interesting play that took a while to get use to. That was not the kind of field that should be in a tournament like that. Other than that the tourny was a good experence.
