Listed below are the All-State Committees for 2006. In 4-A, the representatives are divided up by region. In 3-A, 2-A, and 1-A the representatives are divided into upper and lower state.

If your name is on the list, and confirm your participation by contacting me by private message or email. If your name is on the list, and you cannot participate, contact me by private message or email. I need confirmation by the end of the year (2005) as I would like to have everything settled in by the winter clinic.

The All-State Committees will meet to determine our selections in late April, at Brookland-Cayce High School. Please make sure your membership dues are paid to SCHSSCA. Coaches who are not members of SCHSSCA will not be permitted to nominate players.

Also, please consider carefully the responsibilities involved when you make your commitment to serve on this committee. You need to mindful of identifying candidates on your own team and in all the teams you face. Region representatives should carefully watch the players in their region and discuss All-State with the other coaches. This is extra work but it’s worth it to the young men and women who work hard to earn this prestigious honor.

T. Robinson,
I am wondering what criteria is used to select defensive players for all-state. Of course, there are no stats recorded for defensive players, so are you aware of the determining factors for defensive selections? The CESA North/South selections form only request offensive and keeper stats. Is the all-state criteria similarly limited?

What is the criteria for defenders 2004? Here is what I think. How many times you get it in the hogans in the wall during free kicks. As a team, how many times are your opponents offsides. How many own goals do you allow. How many goals kicks you allow. How many PK's you give up. How many times your Gk has to pick the ball out of the back of the net. One time, at band camp...

On a serious note, here's to Atticus and him calling out fellow coaches on the message board about not responding to an earlier email. I think it is about time for some accountability in the high school ranks.

2004striker, thanks for your question regarding defenders. The coaches in this state do a remarkable job of communicating with each other and we’ve got great collegiality amongst the ranks. Part of job of the representatives on All-State committees is to ask coaches about their players and evaluate the players on opposing teams. Then, when the committees meet, we have a good idea of who we feel, as a consensus, are the strongest players. Of course no player can be named on the All-State teams without first being nominated by their Head Coach who must be a member of the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association. Thanks.

2004,
I was having a little fun about the idea of statistics in the process. I can't tell you how many times a player with great stats has made a all star team and been an absolute nightmare.Like Robinson said, the process has to go through the coaches who have to take in to account what these stats really mean. By and large they do a good job.

Maybe it has changed in the last few years, but back in 1999 or 2000, the schools (AAA) that had coaches on the committee averaged 2 All-State players. I think one or two schools had 3.
