...The keeper, Emily (Dawson?) was also very good and really did a nice job of commanding the goal ...

Thats not Emily Strickland by chance is it?

Was a keeper at CGSA moved to summerville a few years ago...I had heard she had given up soccer for surfing.????

Emily Strickland is playing soccer as a keeper for SSC. She played JV for Fort Dorchester last year and this fall she's at Smvl Soccer club for the U15 girls Classic Team. She is awesome as a goalie; she had over 20 saves last season in the JV game against Wando. I'm glad she chose to come out this season with several other Fort D girls to play in Smvl. Hopefully she will go out for Bridge next year.

I think the Smvl girls program is starting to refocus. Thanks to Coach Birchwood (Girls Classic Director for SSC) who also happens to be the coach of 2 of the winning Bridge teams this weekend @ Carowinds. He is also going to coach the Pinewood boys varsity team this year. He is the reason my daughter has stayed with soccer even though she is not playing for him this year .

Also, watch for the U15 Bridge Girls team this weekend @ the Adidas cup in Charlotte. Old MP Conquest team with some new players. Should be interesting. It is truly an integrated team for girls from the lowcountry.

backrow1,

Thanks for the clarification and also for the comments on the U-15 ladies. I know a couple of the former MP Conquest players headed up to Greenville....I figured the bulk of the team moved to Bridge.

They will have their hands full this weekend at the Charlotte Adidas Cup with Charlotte United Gold on their side of the draw. It would be real interesting to see how the Bridge FA U-15G would stack up against CSC Blue, given the disappointing result Blue had this past weekend against CESA. Should be both fun & competitive.

CUFC is gonna have a problem with distinct name recognition, cause there is CUFC in Charlotte and CUFC in Charleston. They should have gone with CSA (Columbia Soccer Association) or CFA (Columbia Football Association) or PFC (Palmetto Football Club) maybe even CESA (Columbia Elite Soccer Academy).

I agree....CSA or CFA may have been a better choice to differentiate from the club in Charlotte.

Or, with persistence and results, shift it so that when people hear CUFC, they think of Columbia.

I'm glad to hear Emily is playing again. From what I remember she was a gifted athlte and was actually better on the field than in the goal.

The teams have been asked to list themselves as Columbia United FC, not CUFC. There were 12 Columbia United teams in the Charlotte tournament and I think two got listed as CUFC. I'm not sure how that happened. You may have noticed that they are listed by the full name on the SCYSA League schedules and on the R3PL schedules.

BTW, Charleston United Soccer Club is CUSC, not CUFC.

Thank you for your input on the Bridge FA 93 Gold team. Our goalie's name is actually Emily Gossen.
