I guess the downside I see is that if I'm a player I'd want the information as soon as I could get it [i.e., after the tryout process]. Why? Here are several reasons. The player might want the information so that they could "prove the coach wrong" at regionals. Or the player might want to make alternative arrangements. In other words, a player might say "If I can't play for CESA Premier, I'm going to play for Bridge or CUFC or whatever."
From a players perspective, your words make sense. As a player(or parent), I would want to know as soon as possible so I can make a decision. But from a club perspective, you risk losing players for regionals (a la the U16G) or you most likely have unhappy and unmotivated players during regionals. I would think that from a club perspective it would be better to do a later announcement, but make it after everyone is home in order to show some more respect to the players.

Well everyone has class don't they. They can either be "classy" or "unclassy" or anywhere in between. I said "Nor do I think he has no class" which isn't the same as saying I think he is a classy coach. And when I said that he wasn't exactly a class act I was saying that with regards to the incident I was describing.
And I just don't see why a coach would tell a player in front of his teammates that he is cut out of a desire to let them know quickly. I mean couldn't it have waited 5 minutes or less and do it in private.

Cornerflag: From the U16G perspective, I think that a lot of kids "saw the writing on the wall" and decided to bail on their team even though the new team wasn't announced for another month [or so]. There's not much you're going to do about that other than enact penalties for it; I'm glad they did it.
But from the broader perspective, I think you're right -- there are different perspectives. I honestly don't know which is right, but I tend to be biased toward the individual. I'll address your point about the "how" of announcing in the next post.

Remember, there are 16+ kids worried about whether they made it or not -- not just the three that didn't make it. The 13+ kids that made the team want to know immediately as well. So the logistics of it aren't trivial.
And again...I don't know any details...I don't know if the 13+ were told they made it and the 3 weren't called out or if the 3 were called out individually as not making it or what. But...putting myself in the shoes of the players that didn't make it [and in particular, their parents]...I'd rather read the announcement on the web in my home than be told about it in front of my 13+ team mates. So if this was what was done...I understand the 3 kids and their parents not liking it. So if the 3 were called out individually in front of their team mates as not making it I think the coach made a mistake.
Shouldn't be an issue from now on given the change in club policy.

Chico, not sure who you are but I will say you are one of the more resourceful people on here. I have read lots of your post and most are very well put together. Your knowledge of everything going on is outstanding. I enjoy reading your post. I am sure your knowledge of the game reflects your skills on the field. Thank you so much your info.

cheers: Thanks...but I can promise you I know next to nothing about soccer and my soccer skills are less than nothing -- but I enjoy watching it. What I like are club business issues -- I think it's really interesting to try to understand what goes on in these businesses with hundreds and thousands of customers. My profile basically says it all. I did run track a while -- but lost too many races and had to retire.

Don't be fooled by Chico's dogged perceptions and thoughts on soccer. There is a microchip embedded in the soccer ball of the proving ground medal around his neck. It is apparently activated whenever anyone opens up that profile pic. When a person views it for more than 15 sec they go into a CESA-red stupor and become an instant fan of that Big Red Club. Please avoid viewing it if at all possible. Ever see the movie 'The Ring' ?

Cabj12...if I understood your previous posts correctly I don't understand your interest in this issue since you say that you are not a player or parent from that team. Some of the boys were leaving directly from the last game and heading back to Greenville. He called those boys INDIVIDUALLY to the side a distance away and either told them that they were on the team or not...this was only a few boys. Then that evening at the hotel he scheduled individual private meetings with each player and did the same thing...personally I think the way it was done STUNK. I agree with Cornerflag 100 % that it should have waited until everyone had left Texas and got home...even if that discussion at home had to occur via a phone call that IMO would have been better.
