Yes. I only saw the last 10 minutes and the fans were outraged. I did see a few of inconsistant/questionable calls but not enough to judge myself. I thought it was interesting the paper made mention of it.

Airport has a great team and I didn't sense it was a case of a team getting away with dirty stuff. It was a case that all the calls apparently were going against BC. There was no venom toward the Airport team afterwards.

With an apparent and understandable shortage of refs, I am usually just thankful for my team's games to have refs. Certainly some seem to do better jobs than others but for the most part I think most, if not all, of the refs I have seen are trying to do a good job. Like MASH said in a previous post, so many of the calls are judgment calls, so you're bound to have a lot of critics.

I would rather have a ref that is "hypersensitive" than one who is letting too much go. In a recent rivalry game I heard fans from the opposing team encouraging their players to "take number 'so and so' out!," as in "injure her so severely that she can't play anymore!" Fortunately, the opposing players in this case didn't seem to adopt this mentality, but I have seen players that have. For this reason, I'd rather have a ref who goes out of his way to protect the players, even at the risk of being called "hypersensitive." It's obviously not fair for players to be "taken out," and it's also not fair to the players to have to play IN FEAR of being "taken out." Just my opinion.

I also happened to see the recent BC/Airport game in which the ref was described as "hypersensitive" in The State
Newspaper. Ironically, the one call that stood out in my mind was one in which a yellow card was given for a play that I thought might have warranted a red, for reasons mentioned above. A player (looked to be intentionally) took down an opposing player with the ball from behind. She then (it looked to me like she went out of her way) deliberately stepped over the player crumpled on the ground, glaring at her as she went,as if to possibly be saying "take that." I could be mis-interpreting what I saw but that is what it looked like to me. Maybe I am the one who is hyper-sensitive. I thought a red would have been in order, whereas the ref only gave her a yellow. Players need to learn that being in the heat of battle, even in a heated rivalry game, is no excuse to recklessly injure another player.

I think a "hypersensitive" ref allows the players to better illustrate "The Beautiful Game" than one that continuously tells us to "play on!"

Some use physicality to even the playing field when they do not possess the talent the opponent does. While a useful and effective strategy, correct officiating can negate such tactics. Happened to me back in '96 against North Augusta. Ahhhhhhhh, the glory days...

In a recent match that is a rivalry, the opposing team (which was uncharacteristically being beaten soundly) cheered at every hard foul. Opposing coaches AND fans regularly yell "Just hit her" "Just stop her" and such that suggests any physical play is fine. Sadly, refs seem oblivious to that. . .and they are the ones who could control it.

The ineptness continues. Late in the game between Camden & Lugoff last night (Lugoff won 5-0) a Lugoff player received a yellow card for a hard foul. After receiving the card, she removed her jersey & ran off the field twirling it over her head (real class act). The Camden crowd starts yelling for the red card. The 2 refs meet & discuss for a minute & then resume play as if nothing happened.

After the game, the Camden coach questioned the refs about it. One ref claims he didn't see it. Which has got to be an outright lie. Play had stopped because of the previous yellow & she ran directly across the middle of the field. What else would he be watching. If he can't see that, then he's too blind to be officiating.

The second ref's answer was even more ridiculous. He said that he saw it & should have given the card but just didn't. What kind of answer is that?

While dangerous play needs to be checked, I appreciate refs who are patient with young people who act like young people.
