I have watched several games in the mid-state and it appears that BC is the strongest of them. I watched Chapin-Dreher last week and felt the game was rather unispired by both teams. I know Jack wrote a wonderful review but I didn't feel the teams left it out on the field. Maybe they just had a night off. I was expecting more for opening night with two quality teams. Dreher has a couple of quality players but they lack a complete unit. Chapin should be able to play better than they showed in that game but again I felt they had a few weaknesses on the field. Obviously, they have size and talant but again I noticed weaknesses. BC appears to have a solid team at all 11 positions. I feel they really go after the ball from every position certainly winning a large majority of 50-50 balls. I just didn't see the same type intensity from Dreher/Chapin that I witnessed from BC. A few disclaimers: the Dreher/Chapin game was the first for both teams. The BC game was their second. If BC has a weakness it may be at striker. They didn't really seen to have a "deep" threat in their attack.

I agree with another thread that AC Flora should be removed from the top 15 ranking as they just can not get it done yet.

As to 4A - Irmo is the team to beat!

As far as comparing BC to Chapin, I do not know much about BC but i feel that Chapin has the heart and talent to go far in the season and playoffs. Although i remember seeing BC play against socastee last year late in the playoffs, and i remember them being a rather strong team.

For the first regular season non-region match, I'm not sure how much more "spirited" you can play.

Assuming both squads improve and build from that starting point, they will be in good shape come playoff time.

I've seen BC once (vs Lex - granted a scrimmage) and they really only seemed to have one player that could move the ball to/keep the ball in the attacking third. That is going to have to change when you have Byron Quinatoa and David Slaughter out there pounding the ball from 20yrds out.

I think we can both agree that the 3A Midlands is strong this year. There is a lot of soccer to be played though.

Westside High might not be one of the top teams in the state, but they are a much improved program this year with several seniors who need to be recognized.
