anyone wanna explain how the rankings are decided each week??

im taking a wild guess in saying its not by amount of games won in a row region ranking.

ah the age old question of scsoccer.com. You will get an explanation, but one that I don't think is fair and is biased. As you will notice, some teams have stayed idle for weeks no matter the wins or losses. Heaven forbid BC drop out of the top 10.

I'm sure you have to take into account the strength of the teams you play. So beating up on very low level squads while some other teams are fighting it out week in and week out will result in diffrent rankings anyway. If you truley are better prove it in the playoffs.

I was thinking something similar, but what would your changes be? What is your basis for changing the rankings? Give some evidence.

Interesting thread and one I feel compelled to answer, though it seems we go through this same diatribe each spring.
As you can imagine, SCSoccer.com receives a ton of e-mails (more than 100 per day dealing with prep soccer) during the season with pertinent information on teams, players, etc. Along with the numerous Private Messages we receive and input from coaches around the state on their region standings and the all important tournament pairings and results, we are able to formulate a pretty good knowledge base for South Carolina high school soccer.
We take into account: Overall Record; Region Performance; Strength of Schedule; Strength of Region; Results vs. Common Opponents; Results vs. Ranked Opponents; Recent Form; and several other variables -- perhaps most importantly Common Sense! An Excel spreadsheet helps lay out the teams and this week's list is provided below. The criteria for Class 4A and Class 3A rankings were at least eight wins (since we have passed the mid-point of the season) and a .500 record.

SCSoccer.com must be doing something right as the NSCAA contacted us in the Spring of 2007 about chairing the Boys Region III Committee, which includes the states of South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. So, along with the Palmetto State, we are actually coordinating the efforts of two other states as well. Additionally, we also submit the State Rankings to the NSCAA Region I Chair for girls soccer.
We take the rankings very seriously and try to remove all bias and the formula above seems to work very well -- for more than a decade. In fact, the "rankings" usually coincide very closely with the "Massey Ratings" that are compiled at the end of the season -- if it's close enough to a computer's non-biased program, then we feel vindicated by our methods.
Anyone else want to spend 13 Saturdays or Sundays compiling this information (minimum two hours of time -- and that's moving at a highly efficient rate)? Be my guest!
