Congratulations SC 91 boys for a great showing!

i agree that you need to play as a team first but if you stand alone second then you as a player are going to finish second.like i said.odp is a catch 22. i really do not know how to explain odp?
i assume that your statement that the state needs to prepare the girls better you mean more practices and training.i would like to see more of this also but it will take more money and i know that hits a sore spot with a lot of people.we have college coaches giving their time to work with these kids.unless i am wrong none of them are getting much more than gas money to do it.
my last post was not to say that no 93/94 deserved to be held over.from what i get some should have.i was just trying to give some insight into the last 4 years i have been around odp.
i will say one last thing about odp.there is nothing more fair than the relationship of a trainer and team at odp.you have a trainer that has no ties,connections or relationships with any of the players.that is unless someone happens to know a trainer or know in advance who it is going to be.everyone is on the same level playing field in the trainers eyes.their is no politics or favortisim.this is on the team level at odp. i can not speak for a higher level.

The point about the team coming together first and the player second..What I am trying to say is that without a defense and a midfield playing together..No forward is going to stand out no matter how hard they work. When a team works together well it allows the hard workers to stand out more..It's a team sport that allows individuals to stand out if they work hard and the team supports them with high level play..Without this..no one gets a look

the ultimate goal with odp is to become a national team player.if you ask my daughter she will say team first.

We enjoyed the interstate games and tournaments..Our dis appointment came from the lack of training or should I say schedlued practices as a team..When we trained it was good..just not enough of it.And with the coaching turnover the girls were always adjusting to another style of play..With our time spent with the ODP program the biggest difference I noticed between our state and MOST of the others was the speed of play.

I'm a supporter of odp and will encourage my daughter to be involved again next year. However, the '93 girls trained together 5 times all year and had two different coaches. The last coach was immature and exhibited innappropriate personal behavior on several occassions I observed in Alabama. I expected much higher professionalism and greater character from a coach involved with such an elite program. The parents commitment,(financial and travel), the girls commitment,(training and time), were not matched by SCYA. I hope all involved at the state level will be dedicated to taking their efforts to a higher level.

if everyone wants more training then we need to pay for it.in nc they pay for each session all the way thru the process of making the odp team.lets say you have 30 players in a pool at each age group and each one pays 15 dollars a session.now you take 30 x 15 bucks and i bet you will train 3 or 4 times a month if the coach is getting this money.why would a coach want to train that much for the 35 dollars or so they get know.these coaches are basically giving their time for free.you also have to remember that these coaches have recruiting to do and spring games.its not like odp is all they have.in places like texas they have coaches that just do odp.

I understand that a State DOC shouldn't be able to pull rank on a USSF "A" Regional Coach, but I saw some DOC's out there in Montevallo evaluating players, talking with coaches and covertly/overtly adding influence. Is it possible that some participated in meetings where pool players and holdovers were discussed?

Maybe I'm off base, but if a State DOC's opinion is held in high regard (he/she has a good rep & resume), can it help a player's cause?

Florida gets more holdovers than their team success, talent, etc. would dictate. The Florida teams in most region III premiere league play are ok, yet they are getting tons of holdovers. There is no way the talent on the teams from SC, NC, GA is below that of Florida or they would be getiing better results in league play. Florida knows how to work the system effectively to get the holdovers-congrats to them. If holdovers is the goal, SC would need to work the system better to produce those results. There are a lot of players being held over for reasons other than performance in the games and in the training and SC could do a better behind the scenes job in this regard(though I'm not sure Florida is going to give away any secrets on how to do this effectvey)
