Look at it another way. The Region III staff is made of college coaches from throughout the region. These same college coaches attend tournaments, regionals, etc., on scouting trips. They see players from their state in this setting. They then see those players in the ODP setting on the state teams. I don't see how you can say it has no impact.
Now whether it should or not, that's a different question.
The fact that it is not happening on the girls side could be that the girls teams are not having the same success as the boys in being regionally known.
