It's not a 92 thing..It's 91,92,93,94 thing..Four teams..let's assume 80 players and 1 gets held over?
Our system is broken...
If we have to compare it club wise..which I don't think should be the case..93 CESA girls finshed second in region play..not state play REGION play..And not one player was heldover? BUT we don't know how many..if any..went out

Low turn out
Limited practices
Constant coaching changes
We are all open to plan B

I don't think there is one answer. I think quantity of quality players has a lot to do with it. I think without a doubt that politics/effective coach lobbying plays a part in it.

Let me give you a very specific example at my sons age group (Club 93, ODP 94).

Last year at ODP there was 1 kid from SCSA in the 94 paper pool and he was a kid who just came over to SCSA...played at CUFC and was a backup. Moves to SCSA and makes paper pool.

3 really, really good players at CUFC did not.....2 of those 3 moved over to SCSA (1 in between Fall and Spring season) and those 2 kids both made region pool this summer. 1 of their dads flat out told me....that this was a factor in their moving. He was told.....that his son would get help moving if he played there.

Whether real or perceived....there was an belief/understanding that being at that Club would help push his kid over the top from a region perspective.

Now....those kids are really good players who deserve whatever they get. But real help or imagined.....aren't the coincidences interesting?

We are not really going to discuss whether politics plays a role in selections..are we? The best starting eleven are out there and then it's anyone's choice after that..
If there is a system..it is being worked..
Fair? Who cares? Who said anything about it being fair.
Hard work should prevail..If you are in the right place at the right time and throw in a little luck..
Most kids that get thru are pushed by someone or club.
If they can do it alone..with no backing..then that is truly an exceptional player

Also take into account how "on" that player is or isn't when he/she is being looked at. I've seen my kid have games where I wonder if they would be sitting the bench on a rec team then turn around the next game and look like a region III holdover. It's simply the nature of the beast. I've seen kids that have been region III holdovers have games where I wonder what all the hype is about. These are still kids - especially the 94's and 95's. So if your kid didn't make holdover calm down - I'm sure on a given day alot more could make - but the inconsistent play will at some point separate the "men from the boys". Personally I don't get my collar too ruffled about it because I'm just glad he got to be a part of it and if he works hard enough and wants it - good things will happen.

Very good point..How many minutes does a player touch the ball throughout the course of a game..We should concern ourselves with what the players are doing off of the ball.
As far as being seen by a college coach..It's like finding a needle in a haystack..I hope a coach is not going to go on what they see over the course of one game.
I would like to think that the coach has done his homework and is coming to an event to see a player or two..That they follow these players over the course of their club play and has developed a little history of the player

Two of the best players (in my opinion), on the CESA 93 Girls Premier team, were in Alabama as members of the South Carolina 94 state team. One made a pool game, neither got heldover. Both are very good players and one of them can effectively play ANY position on the field.

I'll translate your NC club abbreviations for the local folks:
SCSA = South Charlotte Soccer Association
CUFC = Charlotte United Futbol Club

So the only conclusion I can come up with is that the coaches look past S.C. If you were to dress those players out in Ga uniforms they might get held over..

Goes back to what one of the region coaches said......the top 15 kids in the region ARE being picked. So if your kid is a top 15 player....don't worry about what state, what club, or what coach.

It's a given, I hear ya, the Top 15 are not being missed....and the top fifteen might very well be found exclusively in TX, FL, GA and NC.

But why can't SC get a female player chosen in the 16 - 40 group at any given age group?
