Lady Jackets finally win one at the end of the tournament.

Fort Mill 1
Lexington 0

Possession dominated by FM, at least 75-80%. Shots 19-1, shots on goal 10-1. Becca Tooley gets the game winner at 52:00, with an assist from Sarah Thomas following Julia Van Buskirk's pass up field. Allie Edens, I believe, made several nice stops for Lexington, keeping the score down.

Congratulations to the Lady Bearcats (Coaches Meredith Johnson and Megan Fielden) on winning the tournament championship match! Also congrats to the Lady Trojans (Coaches Cesar Robles and Ashley Abood) for their valiant performance in front of a large, spirited crowd. Great atmosphere yesterday.

Thanks also to all participants, fans, and especially, the Fort Mill HS Girls soccer parents, who volunteered their time to make the 3rd Annual BB&T Fort Mill Invitational a success. Thanks as well to the FM JV girls soccer team for serving as ball girls, the FM Athletic Training staff, Fort Mill Principal Dee Christopher and Fort Mill AD Bailey Jackson.

Thanks to Ricky Rogers, the Rock Hill area assignor, for providing game officials. Thanks to The Herald, Fort Mill Times and CN2 for all the media coverage.

And as always......many thanks to Rhea Faris and Richard Stutts and all the folks at Manchester Meadows for being gracious hosts at one of the finest soccer venues in North America.

Hurst

Thank you for putting together such a great tournament. This event is one of the highlights of our season. It gives us the opportunity to play in front of many of our supporters and York county rivals.

Congratulations to Rock Hill. The match was very hard fought with a great deal of passion and desire. We look forward to our next two meetings.

You know......Fort Mill did a great job with the tournament!! Great weather, great facility.....and I REALLY liked the format.....

I think it would be neat if in HS....they got away from traditional tournament formatting with champions....and simply treated it like a TFC Friendly.....where you got X games and got matched up with good competition. Play NC teams, lower state teams, etc etc. Who cares who wins? I thought the matchmaking Sunday was superb.

Also, brilliant and lucky to have Northwestern and Rock Hill play each other. What a fantastic experience for high school soccer!!!!!! Both schools created an electric atmosphere. Lots of fun.....and you know, the Rock Hill girls actually looked like they hadn't been there before. As a parent its always enjoyable to see kids just reveling in pure joy. And thats what I saw from the RH folks. Congrats!!

Got to see it twice yesterday.......with the RH girls and then while shopping at Wal-Mart I saw a pair of Spiderman bed sheets that I spur of the moment bought my 5 year old son. He went wild!!!!

Good day yesterday.

LEFTOVER: It's gotta be true; take it from someone who spent the weekend with him at Manchester Meadows.

Bill Tooley, Fort Mill girls JV soccer coach and director of the BB&T Fort Mill Invitational at Manchester Meadows last Friday through Sunday, is the No. 1 authority on soccer — boys and girls — in the state.

OK, Boss. You need to skip over this part.

While tending to everything else he was handling, Tooley made time to bring ice-cold bottled water to said reporter. And — I warned you, Boss — came up with some good tips for a notebook.

One of the tips didn't pan out because said reporter was unable to run the coach down. Tooley said most times when Eastside coach Andy Robinson takes his girls to an out-of-town tournament, the team has a tradition.

Tooley said the coaches scout out the closest mall — the Rock Hill Galleria in the case — and make a list of inexpensive items in the stores. When the team is through for the day, each girl gets the same amount of money and attacks the mall for a scavenger hunt. The player with the most items when time is up is the winner.

So when Eastside had played its game Saturday at Manchester Meadows, the players hit the mall. Man, some folks have all the fun.

You may disagree, but you're wrong!
