Coach Chass...I respectfully disagree with you regarding any injustice. The injustice is that they are allowed to compete under a different set of rules than the teams they are competing against. They are a private school not public. This will open the private vs public debate again but I would love for my child to play at another "soccer" school but because we are in the public school system he is limited to what schools he can attend. As a private school BE has no limitation in it's population. I am sure that many of my child's club teammates would migrate toward each other if afforded the opportunity as I am sure Irmo and others would benefit from such an opprtunity as well. So where is the injustice? BE is still allowed to play any schools they want out of conference aren't they?

When your program is ranked year in and year out it doesn't have anything to do with the 1A 2A 3A or 4A. I agree 4A is always going to be stronger because of the amount of students they have to pull from.But for example: Emerald 2A has had a 5 or 6 year run of good teams and have been very competative against some 3A and 4A teams. No they couldn't beat Irmo, Riverside ,Spring valley,or Northwestern but they can compete with most other high classicfications.And Bishop England can compete with any of the classes because they bring kids in from everywhere. No matter what the Rank of the class its boils down to where all the better club players play and go to HS. That's why Irmo, Spring Valley is so strong and Riverside, southSide Christian is so strong, you are looking at the best from CUFC and CESA.
And then the other HS teams have only a few of the Elite players.There's no way 2 elite players along with 4 classic , can compete with 11 elite players.
4A Best teams:Irmo, Spring Valley, NorthWestern, Wando
3A Riverside ,Chapin, Eastside, Greenville
2A Bishop England, Emerald, Waccama,
1A SouthSide Christian, Christ Church, Acad.Magnet

These are all programs that are in the State Championship race every year.

It's just too bad we can't use a relegation/promotion system. That way the best teams would play each other and the weaker teams would have a chance.

On another note, some states do have a way of "bumping up" private schools. (1 to 1.4 rule) for every student that student counts as 1.4. so a school with 100 boys would count as 140 boys. This usually bumps up some of the private schools and makes the season a bit more competitive in the tournament for them.

Mid Country- Northwestern/Springvalley
Low Country- Wando/NMB.

I agree, I think club is starting to play a bigger role in high school soccer. The schools that you see are successful year in and year out are playing club ball at a high level.

5 strait state championships and only lost two starters for the 2009 season.
Also do not forget that they beat Bishop England twice last year. One of those encounters ending four to nothing.

of course, it depends on what you call ideal, but, IMO, and not trying to compare it to club, not trying to look at anything about college commitments... just looking at it purely from a "playing soccer for your school" point of view...

at least in the lowcountry... BE... beautiful campus, great facilities, winning tradition.

and PP... not quite as nice, but they are well into having a winning tradition, and their fan support is pretty awesome. i don't know if that is typical of private schools in general or not, but every game, every sport, is gonna have a lot of people in the stands.

i think you could add up the number of fans at most matches at w ashley, fort d, stratford and summerville, and it still wouldn't equal the number at a PP match.
