(does anyone know if south carolina has ever had in the same year:
1. three teams (same age/sex) play in RIII, AND
2. more than one of them have reasonable success? (to me, this means top 50%)

seems like, typically, one of two teams will do well, while the second team does poorly. just wondering if there is any way for us to send three teams without at least two of them getting abused. )

Yes, I believe last Fall '07 the U16 boys had 3 teams in RPL III and 2 finished at the top. Both teams went to Regionals last summer.

Correct. CUFC U-16 Elite was actually a successful petition admittee (after getting upset by MPSC in the U-15 state cup semi-final). CESA Premier qualified as state champion and MPSC as finalist. CUFC went on to win the Premier League title. CESA finished third (I think). MPSC struggled and finished near the bottom.

It seems to be the case that having more than one team from the state be really good is unusual and having more than two is unheard of. The boys age group referenced above is, if not unique, certainly unusual. Those CUFC and CESA teams can compete against anyone in the country.

The current U17 age group is not entirely unique, it kind of follows the current U18 age group. DSC 90 and CESA 90 have swapped it for years, both normally placing very high in RIII. DSC has won the RIII and CESA has won the RIII in the past. I believe last year was the first year in several where only 1 of those teams went on to Regionals.

I agree, that this is unusual, and a pretty substantial drop from 2 to 3, based on RIII results exists.
