Attendance looks excellent for this upcoming event....but there are several schools conspicuous by their absence.

Why would Duke, Clemson, USC come to this.......and not Winthrop? Only for example.......

For the SC schools this looks to me to be a cheap and easy way to look at a ton of kids without having to go to Disney or wherever. Why wouldn't most/all of them be here?

Didn't you get the memo, Winthrop doesn't recruit locally. Why else would you not heavily pursue Ashley Sheets, Alex Ramsey and Taylor Parker???

Wasn't just picking on Winthrop. Actually...I saw Melissa Heinz at the Combine last year.

But no Winthrop this year....no Newberry, no PC, no Coastal on the girls side, no Charleston Southern, no Wofford on the boys side..amongst others.

Winthrop men don't recruit in the US! Last time I checked SC produces a few players that would crack the WU lineup.

What should be the player expectations of this event?

Let's say a player goes out and plays very well....what happens next?

Will they hear from a coach? Do they hear nothing....but go on a "watch list"?

And I would imagine it would differ by age....so I'm curious to break this down....Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, Freshmen. Especially Juniors down thru Freshmen.

I would assume this is a little different from a tournament....in that I think the whole idea is basically matchmaking.

Big Daddy,

Coaches attending the combine will be evaluating known and unknown prospects. The scouting process typically begins during the sophomore year, but eyes will certainly be open to the freshmen breaking in.

The player can expect to have an opportunity to make it on the radar of one of more programs, obviously depending on player performance and the need(s) of the various programs during the graduation year of the player being evaluated.

It's a fantastic opportunity for aspiring players to display their talent to a number of schools, including all SC D1 programs.

Thanks to CESA and Adidas for organizing the event. Looking forward to it again.

Looking foward to an entertaining weekend. Doesn't look like they will need to water the fields like they do in Barclay's with the AM rain forecasted. Otherwise looking to see what soccer talent is in the neighborhood!

Chico, Chico, Chico.....

What I'm thinking, is that what we need is a bar graph of total college coaching time (number of coaches * roughly 4 hours)....broken down by year. As in , what percentage of college scouting time is spent/invested in seniors, juniors, etc.....

Then I'd like to see the same graph broken down by D1 schools versus D2 or D3. I'd be thinking...that D1 schools would spend more time on sophomores, then freshman.....over juniors and seniors. I'd be thinking D2 coaches....won't be remotely interested in freshmen or maybe even sophomores....being more interested in juniors and maybe seniors.

But again......is the end result of this limited to radar screens? Or will older kids get calls out of it?

And Manchester to echo you......CESA is to be commended for this. Its an awesome thing for kids and schools, at least IMO.

Big Daddy,

I'd say your assessment is spot on. Coaches are attending looking for talent and contacts will be established. It's 50 bucks very well spent!
