I know the NFHS rule regarding the NOCSAE logo requirement is finally being enforced this year. Prior to the season last year we thought it was going to be enforced. I understand why they decided to wait until this season to begin enforcing it. We searched everywhere for shinguards that had the logo on the guards themselves but couldn't find any. We were finally told that enforcement was being put off for a year and that if the NOCSAE logo was on the box itself we were fine. I just called the SCHSL office and spoke with Roger and he said we would have to purchase new equipment since the logo is not on the guards themselves. We still have the package the guards came in and I asked if we could just have that handy if the referee were to question whether the player was properly equipped. He said that would not be sufficient. Has anyone else heard anything different? Is there anything we can get from the manufacturer (Nike) to prove they are NOCSAE legal? I just hate for all of our team to have to purchase another set of shinguards because of this. I haven't looked yet but they properly logoed guards may still be hard to find.

We looked for shin gaurds at multiple places. A little fabric tag says NOCSAE approved, on most everyone I saw. My kid did not like it in there last year so I ripped it out. Guess it is like the mattress tag thing. I hope the tag will suffice, and last a year.

I'm looking forward to watching the first referee completely dress down two squads below the knees, to check for tags.

Especially when the JV game has rolled past 6:30, jeopardizing the timely start of the varsity match.

Referees want to get in, do their job, and get out. I don't think they want to delay matters any more than necessary.

are most shinguards NOCSAE approved? if not, this won't fly. unless you are new to the game most players do not purchase new shinguards each season. in fact they stick with what they've been playing with for several years. the smell will confirm it too.

at our meeting we got told it is the discretion of the referee how they want to handle the shinguard thing; it will be interesting in how they handle it but i can see some power tripping ones take it to the top and not letting kids play even though the shins look appropriate.

Eurosport also known as soccer.com has noscae shinguards; they have a pair for $7.18 at the goal club price; most of all the guards are noscae approved...if anyone wants to find some; i guess dick's as well sells different brands that are noscae approved

I was at the meeting as well and what people do not understand is that the shinguards are the same size as they have always been. Some have a little tag on them that is easily removed and some put the stamp on the box. The simple thing to do is to do a print screen of the page in Eurosport that shows the 42 products of shinguards that are NOCSAE approved and have with you at the game. This way, there can be no debate if it is approved or not because you have the picture of the guard with the approval.

so will the refs be determining that players have the right size shinguard on as well as if they are NOCSAE approved?

i cannot believe that the refs will be checking each player's shinguard to see if they are NOCSAE or not.

will they (schsl) ever do aways with ot/pks and allow ties to stand? what about moving lower/upper state finals to a netural site?

From what I have seen, the majority of the guards do not have the size range on them. One of my players just bought a size large (the largest size available)of the NOCSAE approved Nike C. Ronaldo Guards and he is 5'-10" with long legs. Sliding the guard down to 2" above the ankle like the rules state, the guards barely comes to the middle of his shin. When a ref looks at that and sends him off, How do I argue that he meets the standards set when it comes to the perception of the ref that they are not size appropriate?
