It rained but Coach Champ was sympathetic to the distance we had traveled and we played anyway. I thought the field held up great. I won't speak too much for Wando, but I thought their combinations were good. Neither team mounted very many scoring threats (as you would expect in an early scrimmage). My team has a lot to do to get ready for VK. They are in decent shape and we played well in spurts but we need more time together to get our team play moving and generate more offense. I was surprised the speed of play wasn't any quicker for either team but the soggy field may have had a lot to do with that.
The first goal was off of a direct kick just out of the box in the middle. A nice ball was passed to a player that either headed it or volleyed it over my keeper (I can't remember which). The second goal was a left side build that got our defense out of shape for a cross with numbers.
Our best chances were two nice corners by Casey Craft that we couldn't quite put away and a direct kick by Molly Harpe that pegged the upper right corner. I thought that last one was going to go, but it was not to be.
In general both teams did what they were supposed to do...play everybody in lots of positions to see what combinations work best.
