that's my point (or, at least one of them) - everybody has their own definition of excessive.

if you leave it up to the ref to decide where that line is, you will never know what you're gonna get.

but specify in a rule book EXACTLY what is excessive, and it'll take twenty pages to describe.

so, just call pretty much ANYthing excessive, and it's a whole lot simpler (which is what we've got now)

if you really feel the need to jump for joy, that's cool, just know you're probably gonna get carded for it.

I agree 100%. This is so subjective and up to refs interpretation. On any given night a kid in Greenville can score and celebrate with no card while a kid in Charleston can score and do exactly the same celebration and get a card.

However, my personal take is that the obvious things should warrant a card - taunting opponents, finger pointing or other gestures, running the mouth, etc. Other than that I'm with Will - these kids work their butts off so within reason let them celebrate - it's part of the game. How long do these celebrations last - usually no longer than 30 seconds.

Unless it's something over the top - don't call it. Like so many calls with these refs a little common sense would go a long way - unfortunately way too often that seems to be in short supply.
