The upper state has about four or five teams who all feel they are the best and should make for some really fun games next week.

I wouldn't be surprised if IL pulls the upset. But im just basing it off the scores posted on Eurosport. Looks like IL has a pretty good squad

IL feels they have a lot to prove not being put #1 because they went undefeated so I think you will see a team in IL looking to prove something

Since neither classification can fill a bracket should 2A and 1A be joined together for the playoffs? It would make for a stronger bracket.

There are clearly four top teams in 1A, three of which come from upperstate. The way things are currently set up have ILHS and SCHS possibly meeting in the round of 8, leaving one of the clear top squads out of the round of semifinals.

Statis:
The High School League sets a minimum number of schools that must field a team in a sport in order to make a classification in that sport "go". I am unsure of the exact numbers, but 1A and 2A boys used to be combined until enough 1A schools had soccer teams. At that point, 1A boys was able to split off. I believe that was about 8 years ago. It is not about the strength of the bracket, it is about fairness, logistics and legitimacy. If was all about fairness, the SCHSL would adopt the promotion/relegation system that has been discussed on this board in years past.

Currently 1A girls is short of the required number... thus 1A/2A girls is still combined.
