I have a friend (seriously) whos kids has been offered a position with both MPSL and BFC.
They are fairly new to the area and dont know alot of the politics behind the clubs and realy dont care. they just want the best for their kid on the road to college.
I dont have any kids that play that level so I though this would be the place to ask.
My question is which one has a better track record? Can anyone tell me some positive stories about either, negative.
Again this isnt my kids so my feelings wont get hurt just trying to help out a friend and there family

First, you need to clarify the clubs............do you mean MPSC (Mount Pleasant Soccer Club) and Bridge FA? Also, if "your friend" wants responses, it might be helpful to include the gender and age, as this makes a big difference (in my opinion) as to what will be posted.....If these are the two clubs you are referring to, brace yourself for the responses you might be receiving, as this will surely open up a can of worms

sorry guess I should be alittle more clear
yes it Mt. Pleasant and Bridge FA shows you how much I really know about youth soccer here in the area.
and it is for the Girls U18 and U17 teams
again, I have no ties to any club just trying to help my friend help here daughter make and edcated decision and which club might be best for pursuing college level soccer
Anyhow I really want to try to understand the politics and egos of youth soccer (one of the biggest problems with soccer in the US in my opinion) so let your opinions fly

Not really wanting to stick my nose to deep into a club area I am not from, but I will anyways. If your friends girls are U17/18 and planning on playing in college they are either way behind or did not look into soccer here when they moved. By U17/18 they should be playing at a high level in club and if they are college material (likey played in high school where they came from) the club should have refered them through contacts to clubs in thier new area.
In intrest of general info what level have they played at before ODP? classic? Challenge? select? where did they come from?

Be nice, Chief.
Someone coming from California or the west or wherever may have no idea what club in Mt. Pleasant is best and their club wouldn't necessarily know to make a referral either. CESA and BFA BOYS Academy may have national name recognition, but I honestly doubt that specific age groups at either BFA or MPSC would be known to people outside southern tournaments.
Of course, that's not to say that these people didn't come from some place where they might have known, but my point is that you shouldn't castigate someone before knowing the full story. And the nice way to find that out is to ask: "where are you coming from and did their old coaches have any recommendations?"

And to Mikey, I looked at the coaches at MPSC and BFA and I honestly only know anything about one of them: Shannon Champ with Bridge 91 Gold. She's the Wando High School head coach and it's a team that is consistently nationally ranked and has played in the state championship the last couple of years. She's done some great things with the team there and I would imagine she does just as well with her club girls.
I don't know how competitive either team has been the past year, however, or what kind of tournaments they've been to. If someone else has that info, it would be useful in making a decision. But really, it depends on what the girls want out of the season and where they're looking to take their game.

Ok maybe I came across a little gruff! Sorry What I meant was that at the u17/18 level college qaulity players tend to have been identified by some one and hopefully they could have steered the girls in the right direction before the move, but your cross country point is valid. Still there is much that can be found with word of mouth research, I would seriously talk to school coach where girls are going to play. Find out the makeup of the school team (club wise). Would you want to be only player from another club on the school team made up of the other clubs players? If your child is a college level player then you tend to be ontop of researching these things. Heck by time they get to college I bet most high level club players parents have spent about a years worth of college tuition on soccer costs

The information you read regarding coaches for the Bridge FA team was for the 2008-2009 season.......Shannon Champ will be taking over the younger girls' group (U10) in the fall and will not be coaching an older girl's team. I had heard that the majority of her former older girl's team have left the Bridge and moved over to MPSC. The information posted online for MPSC coaches has been updated and is correct. Considering these new changes, I would highly recommend that your friend ask a lot of questions before making their decision. While input and responses might be generated from this forum from others that may or may not be accurate and truthful, I think the best source to go to for their answers would actually be the clubs themselves...........my recommendation is to tell you friend to pick up the phone, call the DOC's from both clubs and ask questions. This would hopefully give your friend more information to make an informed choice and one suitable for their daughter's needs and desires for playing club ball. Good luck!

Hey Mikey,
What school district did your buddy choose when he brought his daughters to town?
Interesting to see what high school they will be attending.
BE, Wando and West Ashley all had great years.
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.
