All,

I hope the following points will resolve the questions regarding CESA 92 Premier and the National League:

1. USYSA announced the formation of the National League about six months prior to USSF announcement of the academy program.

2. The USYSA National League consists of Premier League teams. It's not a tournament which any team can attend. Each year, eight select teams from around the country are invited to participate in the league in addition to their Premier League schedule.

3. The National League competes twice during a twelve month period. The first event during the '09-'10 season is this coming weekend at the D1 Final Four complex in NC, followed by a second event during the Spring in Florida.

4. As everyone knows, most States have their State Cup competition during the Spring. CESA 92 Premier is the first team to be invited to participate in the National League and as a result the acceptance of the invitation by the team created a unique set of circumstances for SCYSA, CESA 92 Premier and their State Cup competitors to deal with. To the credit of all parties involved, these circumstances were addressed by changing the dates the U17 age group would compete for the State Championship.

5. CESA 92 Premier will play one league match per day beginning this Friday. They will play the State Championship match sometime next week.

As I've previously said, our boys are grateful to SCYSA and each opponent for making accommodations to enable the team to meet their National League obligations, while also competing for the '09 State Championship. We are proud of the boys for their achievements and look forward to an exciting weekend of soccer in NC!

Imagine. Believe. Achieve.

What are the implications if CESA 92 Premier can't get back in time and forfeits? Do they still get R3PL the following year since they are the state finalist?

Having finished as one of the top two teams in Premier League this past season they should automatically qualify for Premier League next year regardless of State Cup results or even participation in State Cup. However, finishing R3PL in #2 position does not guarantee a trip to Regionals next Summer. So, they have to try winning State Cup for the guarantee.

Manchester:

1. Not sure what this has to do with anything, other than the fact that I wish people would stop making it a competition between who is doing what, with who, and when!

2. You state CESA were invited to participate in the National League. Given your comment can you help me understand why an application process is then available on the National League

3. Good luck.

4. See #2

5. Once again good luck.

Obligation? Not really. You chose to enter. But then again you also chose to request assistance and support of SCYS.

And this is where the club feuds cloud the actual concern.

From what I can gather, no true supporter of soccer is questioning what the CESA 92 Boys are doing. However, what is being questioned is our fly by the seat of their pants state officials who arbitrarily make this stuff up as they go along for the ride!

Reccos,

Point 1 was simply to clarify a question posted by someone else in this thread.

Applications are simply a formality for Premier teams to demonstrate a willingness to participate in the top USYSA league. I don't get the SCYSA bashing when they are subordinate to USYSA.

At the end of the day, SCYSA has an obligation to USYSA to resolve such schedule conflicts if and when they occur. If not SCYSA, then who would you have settle such matters?

Since Manchester was at it so late last night, I'll take the opportunity to answer the questions raised.

DeltaDog: First two finishers in R3PLE qualify for regionals this year from the east division. It's a rotating thing between the different premier divisions in Region III. Individual states determine their entries for Premier League, which is generally the top two finishers in State Cup. SC will be invited to enter a third team in this age group because of CESA's second place finish this year. The CESA 92 boys are playing for the pride of defending their state title, nothing else.

Reccos: Participation in the National League is not required. Teams must apply each year. The top four finishers from the previous year are guaranteed a spot if they apply and the remaining teams are chosen based on play in Premier League, Regionals and Nationals.

Manchester, is that an admission that the team was not invited but rather applied?

Where does it state that SCYSA has an obligation to USYSA to resolve such conflicts?

Once could argue that USYSA would / should defend the integrity of a member associations State Cup!

Just because they are invited doesn't mean they have to apply. That is what the application is for; to indicate willingness to accept the inviation and to provide contact info and other info about the team.

USYSA requires these teams to compete in their State Cup.

So you are saying USYSA should schedule this event on a different date and deny the NL teams from all over the country the opportunity to play at the NCAA Final Four locale on the Final Four weekend because one state association has chosen not to have it's State Cup in the Spring like everyone else?

By the way....congrats to CESA 92 Premier on winning the match last night.

And, great job by Carolina Select giving them a good game.

Coach P,

Are you saying that CESA should not have accepted their 'invitation' to participate in the National League?

You have stated the obvious regarding the USYSA requirement. BUT what does this have to do with my question regarding SCYSA having an obligation to USYSA to solve this issue?

No.

Wow - all I can say is Wow!!!!

The USSF Academy program looks better everyday. Seems all they do is play soccer - not bicker over decisions by SCYSA.
