Dont' know why this is so hard for people to understand.

When the 90 Discoveries won Regionals and Nationals it was good for South Carolina soccer. All the players who have the opportunity to play with or against these young men benefited.

When the 91 Columbia United boys won R3PLE for two consecutive years, everyone in SC was better for it.

When the 92 CESA boys won Regionals, took third at Nationals, and now are playing in the National league, it is good for everyone who plays soccer in our state.

Contrary to some people's views on this forum, not everything is about college. Many of the players on these elite SC teams are playing for the love of the sport and the opportunity to play at the highest level available to them.

Also, let's look at what the three teams who have been so wronged by SCYSA's decision get:
CSSC played their second round game at home at the time of their choice. They'll be playing for a spot in Premier League on Sunday that SC gets next year because of CESA 92's finish this year.

The loser of tomorrow's 2nd round game will play for a spot in R3PLE. Nothing changes in their state cup schedule.

The winner of tomorrow's game will play the final round game at the site and time of their choice, with additional rest.

CSSC's "second round game at home" was played at the exact same venue that the match was scheduled for on the original date, Saturday at Manchester Meadows.

What CSSC got was four days rest in between their semi-final and final, while their opponent in the 3rd place game gets no rest, having to play CSSC the following day.

Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

For the vast majority of kids playing a D1 scholarship is nothing but a dream. Even the majority of R3PL players will never see a D1 scholarship. So the next dilemma becomes do I try for that 25% ride at a Newberry or Presbyterian? If I do get that am I still paying a higher college tution than I would at USC with no soccer and no scholarship? In effect am I really paying more for college just to play soccer? If you love the game and want that experience then maybe - especially if you can supplement your soccer scholarship with an academic scholarship. Hate to say this folks but I've run across many kids and parents in the last 17 years who need to get a grip on reality and face the fact that while their kids may be better than average soccer players D1 is just not going to happen. I think in a lot of cases the parents are living this dream as much as the kid. To be blunt it's kind of sad. The bottom line is have your kid choose his/her school based on educational needs - what they want to major in and do for the rest of their life - which will not be playing soccer. To the student athletes reading this STUDY STUDY STUDY. Club soccer is great in what it teaches - committment, time management, teamwork and discipline. Have fun with it and enjoy the friendship and memories you make - but just remember there aren't many Enzo's in South Carolina. That young man is fortunate enough to be living the dream of many soccer players and their parents in this state.

you must be new, we don't go for that type of logic around here

Coach P,
I have a question for you. Yesterday at the state cup, SUSC was down five players. We had two taking the ACT in Orangeburg and one at a dance thing (crazy I know), and two with season ending injuries. We asked the ref for extra time (ten minutes) before starting the game-we had another player about ten minutes away. They denied us the extra time and started the game 3 minutes early. We were complaining to the offical and he basically told us tough luck. In fact, the CESA premier coach (a true gentleman) asked us if we needed time for another player to show up. Therefore, when all was said and done we had to play a player down. My question is, "can the scysa official deny the request for additional time?" I thought we had ten minutes (no more of course). However, they were truly a better team and deserved the win.
