Coach P,
..."can the scysa official deny the request for additional time?" I thought we had ten minutes (no more of course)...

Was it the referee or an SCYSA official who denied your request?

My understanding is that if you have at least 7 players you must start at the scheduled time. Since you must have at least 7 to play, you would forfeit if you did not have 7 at the end of the grace period.

Meredith, I guess I understand why the officials wouldn't let you wait for your other player, but to force you to start early was wrong. Especially since the opposing coach was understanding of your situation.

Looks like the following teams have qualified for the Fall 2010 R3PL (listed by next year's age groups):

U16 Boys
CESA 94 Premier
MPSC 94 Premier
Columbia United FC 94 Elite

U17 Boys
CESA 93 Premier
CSSC 93 Elite

U18 Boys
CESA 92 Premier
Lexington United 92 White
FSCG Sharks

U16 Girls
CESA 94 Premier
Columbia United FC 94 Elite

U17 Girls
CESA 93 Premier
Coastal United FC 93 Premier
Columbia United FC 93 Elite

U18 Girls
CESA 92 Premier
Columbia United FC 92 Elite

That means seven different clubs have teams that qualified for next year's R3PL:

CESA – 6
Columbia United FC –4
Coastal United FC - 1
CSSC – 1
FSCG – 1
Lexington – 1
MPSC – 1

How do some groups get three teams in the R3PL?

I'm pretty sure it was because, for the three ages with three teams, the CESA team finished in the PL top two the previous season. So they may get an automatic bid, allowing the third place state team to make it.

But that's just an educated guess.

That is my understanding and that is why I listed three in those particular age groups. For example, SC had three in the U16 girls R3PL this season and it was my understanding that it was because the CESA team finished in the top two at U15 in 2008.

That's what I figured when I saw it. But I'm not an expert on how it works. I just made a guess when I saw your groups. So don't take that as the actual method. I'll defer to others with actual knowledge.

BeenAround,

One of the reasons "this" is so hard for people to understand is because most of "these" people don't drink the kool-aid (the formula of which is unknown to me at this time) that somehow makes it possible for "them" to come to the otherworldly realization that the earth rotates around cesa (most people here erroneously believe that scysa rotates around cesa) But seriously...

I agree with your first statement - "When the 90 Discoveries won Regionals and Nationals it was good for South Carolina soccer."

Your second one, "When the 91 Columbia United boys won R3PLE for two consecutive years, everyone in SC was better for it" wow...now that is one heck of a proclamation. But, just to make sure I was not the only one baffled by that, I called my brother in Columbia and asked him if he felt that he was better for it. He seemed to hedge momentarily, and I started to think maybe I had been mistaken, but then he said, no, he definitely did not feel better for it (but it was definitely cool they won two years in a row). And that was the end of my scientific study on that subject.

"When the 92 CESA boys won Regionals, took third at Nationals, and now are playing in the National league, it is good for everyone who plays soccer in our state." I'll go with most of two-thirds of that. But seriously...I think a more appropriate name for the National League might be the National Weekend.

Since the creation of the Development Academy, winning Regionals and Nationals means less and less each year. Don't get me wrong - I think it's great that some SC teams have done as well as they have at Regionals and Nationals the last couple years - but don't kid yourself - it just doesn't mean the same thing it did five or ten years ago. But to place the National "League" even on that same level - heck, even on the same level as, say, the CASL or Disney Showcases, just seems silly to me.

Your statement "Contrary to some people's views on this forum, not everything is about college" really should have said " Contrary to some people's views on this forum, not everything is about cesa."

You kool-aid drinkers have been getting way too defensive recently. For the most part, I don't think anybody disagrees that it's a wonderful thing you guys were invited, then required to apply for, and then allowed to attend that National Weekend dealio. Seriously, it's a great thing. The point you don't seem to be grasping, though, is not everyone appreciates that while scysa can be rather inflexible towards most everyone, once cesa said jump, they asked "how many weeks?"

It's really not that hard to understand...

Manchester has some sort of a saying on all of his posts....something about competition breeding excellence, or something like that. I find this years State Cup results, fascinating......

CESA appears to have won EVERY age group and every gender. Total domination? Maybe.....

But every game was a 1 goal game and in a lot of cases the teams CESA was playing simply aren't that good.

Is soccer in South Carolina really getting better? Or are the clubs (CESA, really) only doing a better job of getting more out of town talent into their club? Is a rising tide lifting all boats? Is the overall pie getting bigger?

Pick your cliche'. Looks to me like its not. Maybe becasue of Academy, maybe for this or that. But I would argue that soccer in SC hasn't been this uncompetitive in a long time. And that without a foil to play off of.....CESA will plateau out.

Because competition breeds excellence.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that, percentage wise, they won't ever do better than 7 out of 7

But I do think the overall tide is rising. There was not an easy game. And that's good for the entire state which should be everyone's ultimate goal.
