Don't think he said that he saw them this weekend, only that he had seen them play at CSU.
I can't be objective about Academy/USYSA so I won't comment except to say that it is hard to make direct team comparisons because of the difference in the way the two organize age-groups.

Except when you look at the clubs who have moved their top players into the Academy program.....you understand the drain that has taken place at USYSA.
CESA belongs in the Academy and State Cup for SC would be a whole lot more interesting without CESA. As good as CASL is...and as much as they dominate NC.....its not nearly as uncompetitve as with CESA and SC.
And until CESA goes Academy......its not going to change. No one will beat them going forward. By u15/u16 the better "non-CESA" players are gone. If they lose age groups it will only happen in the Spring with the 13's and 14's.
My opinion, for what its worth.
Again, speaking only for boys.

Thanks for helping me out Daddy..I guess I should have been more clear in my post..Excellent point the difference in age groups..one running calendar year and the other July to June..Also the two games I did see in Rock Hill were two teams playing to compete against CESA and the other game was a consolation on Sunday so I only saw teams 2,3 and 4 play..

As for the U16 Girls finals, CHT, I am not sure what game you were watching, but the game I saw was very evenly matched with CESA being able to pull off the winning goal in the 2nd 10 minute overtime period. It could have very easily gone in the other direction. Hats off to Coastal United and CESA on playing such a great game, not to mention in such horrible weather!

I don't think CESA is satisfied to just win state championships. It would be one thing if they won state titles and then went home and admired their hardware. They are attending high level tournaments, College Combine, etc.
I sat around this weekend wondering how some of the teams that will participate in Premier League for the first time will fair. For some teams, they have never had to play against a Concorde Fire, RSL or Alpharetta Ambush. For them this is their second tier of talent. Will this be a great reflection on South Carolina for these teams to play in the premiere league and get killed?
CESA may belong in the Academy. How has our other SC academy club done? Do we have enough talent to field two academy programs? I think even if CESA faired well with academy they would still have naysayers.
Just my opinion.

What field is the U17 boys final going to be played on? Also does anyone know game time?

I think CESA would do fine in Academy. SCU u16's are having a great year, not sure about their 18's.
The thing is.....Academy is done by birth year. So their U18's are kids with 91 and 92 birth dates and their u16's are kids with 93 and 94 birth dates. So at the u16 age group this year you could be pulling kids from 92 Premier, 93 Premier, 94 Premier. Think they could compete?
CESA would do fine. And the only CESA naysayers are within SC. With Academy.....state lines are gone and you're just another team.

If I were a parent/player of CESA right now I might be a little concerned. While CESA may be able to compete very well if they were in the Academy - for how much longer? With the Academy teams playing a longer season (more practice - more games) than R3PL teams it stands to reason that more training and games should make one a better player. If not, is the USSF Academy really doing what it is designed to do? Also, with R3Pl being "watered down" (as some on these threads have put it) the level of competition being faced by CESA is not likely what is being faced by South Carolina United. Conventional wisdom would have you believe for most facing higher levels of competition should make one better.
Playing lesser opponents will not make one better than facing equal or better opponents.
No offense meant to CESA (heaven knows they have pretty much dominated soccer in this state for quite a while) but are they in danger of becoming a big fish in a small pond if they don't try to field some Academy teams? How much longer can they let South Carolina United be the lone Academy team in this state before there is a significant gap in talent between the two if only for the reasons stated above?
CESA has a great program and may be content to offer the product they offer and niche in the market. However, lets not believe they necessarily are "THE" club in this state offering the highest caliber of soccer.

This has been a very exciting tread so far and since everyone else has their opinion I figured I'll drop my 2 cents as well. I also watched all the games this weekend and considering the simple fact that CESA basically had most of the best girl players from every part of the state on their rosters (U15 and above) and only managed to beat everyone by one goal including15's vs #7 seed CUFC, 16's and 17's 5 minutes before the pk's doesn't realy show me the total dominance. Same thing on the boys side. CESA's 15's (second best boys team in the club after Emmet's and Garbonzo's 17's) only managed to squezze by the "mighty" MPSC 1:0 and that's with couple of the players in their squad that played at MPSC last year. Carolina Select put up a great fight in the 16's (which had few of their own wearing CESA's badge). DISA dominated the CESA 18's and missed pk on top of that. Again, some may say sour grapes for pointing this out but I would definately argue the dominance. SC is definately too small of a state to have 2 Academy teams. There are only a handfull of CESA U-15/16 Premier players that could get a chance to see any playtime at the current SCUFC U-16 team and only Garbonzo and Lunceford between 17/18's after what I've seen this weekend. Hats go off to CESA for getting the job done. We may never see this again but for now there are 7 (maybe 8) more soccer balls to be placed on the website
