How many kids from SC are playing in MLS or overseas?

Never is a long time. A little history lesson for you, looking at the boys side.
A few years ago, CESA formed and swept the challenge state cups.
Bridge FA formed, and won the U18, U17, and U16 lost in overtime.
CUFC formed and more parity was added.
Bridge went academy.
CUFC/Bridge jointly in the academy.
CESA has the opportunity to sweep again. So, maybe it's just me looking at a bigger picture rather than a short sighted view and not understanding everything to be able to say that Brige and CUFC never competed with CESA.
There is a lot of information in this thread that is correct, and a lot of bickering.
Points I tend to agree with:
1) CESA needs to strongly consider joining the academy to remain effective for the top tier of play. The top tier is continuing to shift from USYS to the Academy.
2) College recruiting has/is shifting to Academy. Nothing new here, this was said a couple of years ago.
3) Options exist, and that is a good thing.
A trend that could be looked at. The initial U16 Bridge academy group had substantial success, the U18 not as much. Current U16 group is having substantial success, U18 group not as much. Maybe it's hard headed 18 year olds that are used to a certain way, and maybe there are other things. If there are no other consolidations/changes when this U16 academy group is the U18 group, maybe the success will continue.

Silence, what have I said that makes you think I'm living in a fantasyland? If you have something worthwhile to add, feel free, but so far, you haven't actually said anything. Raekwon, one of the problems here is that this thread started out about the state cup, but has veered way off track. Can't say I didn't have anything to do with that, but if you will go back, you should realize that most of the original posters were angry - it just took a little while for them to realize where they needed to direct that anger (which, as it relates to the state cup, should be towards scysa, not cesa). I don't think anyone has shown hate towards cesa on this – only what appears to most to be special treatment given to a club by an organization that typically is unwilling to make changes for anyone (read the words slowly and carefully, please). I'll admit, I am kinda carrying over from this thread: http://www.scsoccer.com/forum/showflat.p...=1&fpart=1. To understand the kool-aid comment, you'd have to go back and read that entire thread. And, if you read it all the way through, you'll see that I am not a cesa hater and never have been. I just don't like when people try to make their club out to be something it is not. But to summarize what I say in the other thread: cesa is not for everyone. The Academy is not for everyone. Each person should do what is best for themselves. No fantasies here. But you should at least educate yourselves before commenting on the other. How many of you have taken the time to find out who formed the Academy and why they decided it was necessary? Do you know which organization cesa falls under? Which one ODP falls under? I have been told that cesa HAS applied to be in the Academy. Don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, I hope that those of you who have assailed the Academy up to this point, will then tell your leaders at cesa, "thanks but no thanks, we're staying with scysa!" either, that, or most of this will be a moot point.

I don't see the 16's falling apart. The core of that team has been together since Summerville days at what.....U9 or U10? Hyper talented, well coached, very successful. I would hope they would hang together and finish their run.

Except for there aren't many CESA players/parents playing league games in the Miami area or showcases in Phoenix. Sure these aren't weekly occurences for Academy teams but they sure could affect family finances.
As far as your 1 maybe 2 kids on SCSCL teams kids being Academy ready - I agree with your numbers - but there a select few out there. Reasons they are where they are could possibly be what I listed - financial or family committment.
Bebe, how could I have forgotten to add this?
While my sons team was queueing up in the Charlotte airport to go to Phoenix....the CESA girls were queueing up to fly to Dallas, en route to College Station. I doubt the Academy teams are traveling more than a typical CESA Premier team.

Except for the fact that the Academy season is what 35 - 38 games instead of 10 - 12? Somewhere in the 3 times more range.

Big Daddy, I didn't say the U16's will fall apart. What I said was the trend, success at U16, has not necessarily been continued at the U18 level. There have been many dynamics that in my opinion have impacted that. I think program stability is needed to see if there is anything that needs to be adjusted there.

Nope.
23 league games and 2 Showcases with 4 games each. Spread out over 6 months. Half of the league games are home.
From 12/1 to 6/1 we have have 2 trips to Richmond, a trip to Clearwater, a trip to Miami, a trip to Greensboro, and a trip to Raleigh. Add the Showcase in Phoenix and a second Showcase in Sarasota.
Two flights, two long bus trips (FL), and two pretty short bus trips (Richmond). Again, for the same money as the club/ODP model.
Now, compare that to the last 6-7 months for CESA 92 Premier.
Dallas, Boston, Orlando, plus the R3 schedule which I'm sure took them to FL at least once and probably Savannah as well.
Not a lot different travel wise.

Ok - so roughly twice the number of games. Meaning more hotel rooms, eating out, gas, etc.
