So it's "ethical" and "in the spirit of the game" when one team transfers a player that was not on the team all season (completely within the rules), but it's not "ethical" and "in the spirit of the game" when it is done (again, completely within the rules) by the other team who happened to be the team that won?

Was the level of play good? Were the teams playing CESA able to lift their games? If so......then absolutely its a great sign of the overall tide rising.

But if the CESA teams played down to the level of their competition, then thats NOT a good thing.

In the case of the U18 Girl's game on Saturday....Cesa had to lift their level of play UP to MPSC 91 Elite Girls level.

Even though Cesa added 2 or 3 (this has since been corrected to one, sorry) D1 College players to their roster before playoffs, MPSC was/is the better team. Anyone that watched that game will tell you the same thing.

Without the addition of the D1 players, no way Cesa wins that game. I have more thoughts on recruiting college players for the purpose of winning State that I will post under another thread.

In the case of MPSC 91 Elite Girls Vs Cesa 91 Premier ....the better team to represent South Carolina did not win.

Congratulations to MPSC 91 Elite Girls for a great season. I've enjoyed watching you play and grow up over the years. Soccer friends are the best friends and I wish you the best always.

Team Manager, MPSC 91 Elite Girls

Karen i will have to jump in here. I did not have a kid in any state game this weekend but i did watch most of the games like a fool in the cold rain. As for Saturdays game MP should be proud for not only making it there but for playing such a good game. They played hard and had Cesa on the ropes for awhile but for you to say they were better and CESA had to play up to their level i guess is just a proud parents point of view.MP had some skilled players but they were not from top to bottom as good as CESA and the right team won.CESA did have only one D1 player and i am glad to say he payed for the pizza and beer.I told someone standing near me with about 15 mins left that MP was getting tired and CESA was going to win.CESA kept the pressure on and with MP running out of gas and MP not having quite the skill in the back it was only a matter of time before CESA took control.
As far as Sunday goes i think the u-18 girls game was the best of the weekend. The 2 best teams were in the championship and the best team won.

I would think adding a player from another club like MPSC did with CSSC is more like "recruiting" than utilizing a player who previously played for the club. But both ways are perfectly legal and have been done regularly for quite a while.

Your comment surprises me. How about a silly example to prove a point ...

Coach, your team qualifies for the State Cup. Your DOC is added to your roster at the last minute. Come game time he / she takes over, changing your formation and your starting line up - essentially reducing you to the bench.

Well within the 'rules', but right?

Don't see how that relates at all to the "recruiting" issue. But, yes it is completely within the rules and would be the DOC's perogative. But I'm not sure how many coaches would continue to coach for a DOC that did that. And I don't see how you have proven any point.

Spirit of the game?

are you serious?

Were you ever an athlete or coach yourself?

just in case you are here is one definition which is as good as any (IMO)

Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play.

I think a better example is the DOC is added to my roster for coverage, I get sick before the cup and can't make it to the game and the DOC takes over in my place. My understanding is that is what happened with the players. They were reduced in numbers and added an extra sub to help out. The sub just happened to be a college player.

My point had nothing to do with 'recruiting' per say, but rather the addition of players prior to State Cup.

And you have proven my point for me. Take your last sentence and change the word coach to PLAYER.

Let me know if you still dont get it and I will take the time to explain it.

Guest players and recruiting has always been apart of club soccer..So guest players at State does not surprise me..Nothing really surprises me anymore..In my opinion if you have only ten available players due to injury..pick up a player to compete but if you have eleven that has played all season..Play with the team that got you there and don't pad the roster..This event was the last state cup for most involved..

Morris, My daughter was on the sideline with a broken toe injury so I didn't have a kid playing either, but the game was worth watching in the cold rain. So, give yourself a break.
The game I saw....was MP having the best of the game until 3 minutes left in regular play. This game went into overtime and both teams were a little tired. MP kept up the pressure until the very end.

I disagree with you on the better team (as did college coaches, other fans w/o players in the game and cesa 91 premier players), disagree with you about proud parent's point of view, but appreciate your kind comments about our team and appreciate the sarcasm in your signature, and your avatar is perfect.

I guess I fail to see how adding a player has any bearing on mutual respect between players, is against the agreed rules and violates the the joy of play. Were the players on that team against having the player added to the roster?
