I would think adding a player from another club like MPSC did with CSSC is more like "recruiting" than utilizing a player who previously played for the club. But both ways are perfectly legal and have been done regularly for quite a while.

Your comment surprises me. How about a silly example to prove a point ...

Coach, your team qualifies for the State Cup. Your DOC is added to your roster at the last minute. Come game time he / she takes over, changing your formation and your starting line up - essentially reducing you to the bench.

Well within the 'rules', but right?

Don't see how that relates at all to the "recruiting" issue. But, yes it is completely within the rules and would be the DOC's perogative. But I'm not sure how many coaches would continue to coach for a DOC that did that. And I don't see how you have proven any point.

My point had nothing to do with 'recruiting' per say, but rather the addition of players prior to State Cup.

And you have proven my point for me. Take your last sentence and change the word coach to PLAYER.

Let me know if you still dont get it and I will take the time to explain it.

I still think your example is different. But they have been doing this for quite a few years and still have plenty of players who want to be a part of a championship team!

....and Sosa, McGuire and Bonds have to live with everyone knowing their feats were tainted by steroid use. Controversy is part of sports. But I understand - it does make one angry when you feel like you are on the unfair end of things. (Yes - I realize guests players are legal and steriod use is not but it was just an analogy to show controversy exist in sports and many times we cannot do anything about it).

The point in my post was that I don't see that what CESA did by bringing in a former CESA player was anymore "recruiting" than what MPSC did by bringing in a player who had played all season for CSSC. And I don't see how the "silly example" addresses that.

My point was that they still have plenty of players willing to play the entire season to be on a potential championship team even though they are known to bring in players for "two weeks". I don't think they are leaving the club in droves because of it.

guest player? no such thing in state cup play, correct? players must be added prior to roster freeze date and probably where on the team’s roster from the beginning to have available for cup games and regionals.

Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. I guess I fail to see how adding a player has any bearing on mutual respect between players, is against the agreed rules and violates the joy of play. Were the players on that team against having the player added to the roster?

OK...

Let me be clear here I have NO DOG IN THIS FIGHT!

You can not tell me that those players (on either team) that sacrificed their time for practices, and games all season have the same respect for the player that was added to the roster for the sole purpose of winning a title.

How can a team (any team) claim to be the best when they add players at the end of their season which never played for that team prior to the end of the season?

Did that player make the difference between winning and losing? maybe, maybe not - we will never know but obviously someone thinks it did.

I’m with CHT all the way on this one!

When you get a chance google spirit of the game and you will notice it is an unwritten rule among players and coaches applied to all sport not just soccer.

Bottom line - I wish SCYSA would make a change to this policy.

PS* I mean no disrespect to any of the players which were added to any teams for state cup, they were added because they are good players.

It is my understanding that that is NOT what happened. Both CESA and MPSC added players because they had lost players and had reduced numbers. A very normal thing for any team to do. Sure, CESA could have played with 12, but 13 gives them one more sub in case injuries are incurred during the State Cup. MPSC added players before CASL but didn't just put them on a guest roster for that tournament, they put them on their permanent roster so they could use them in the State Cup as well.
