I don't know about less games. Games are fun, the whole point for the training. I think parents should have to watch their kid perform certain skills. Like, if a parent is complaining, have the coach point to the player and say: "Okay, Player, show me right now that you can do 10 juggles in a row without letting the ball hit the ground. You're 11 and old enough to do this if you're an elite player."
Lots of under developed kids can't do 10 juggles like that. If the parent sees the kid fail right in front of their eyes, it's a reality check, for both player and parent.
I know this example doesn't begin to cover the entire depth or span of this topic, but its a focused, specialized demonstration that illustrates a relevant point. Ball skills! Kids must be comfortable on the ball. First touch!
