Agree with your sentiments entirely. Funny but a friend in Va who is HS coach (played Div 1 in college many years ago) always asked the same question at his parent meeting every year. One year a dad quietly raised his hand and politely asked if playing on the Turkish national team for 4 years counted as "professional" to the coach. The father was honestly unsure if that was good enough for what the coach was looking for! (not realizing the point he was about to make) Of cousre the coach said that was "good enough" and asked if the father could come out and help when he had some free time. He then went on to say that any one with less than five year on National Team experience should come to him with questions and not coach from the stands (got big laughs). Best part is the Turkish father stepped in and offer to answer/ explain to other parents if they did not understand the coaches methods, becuase of his experience he felt might help the parents understand and did not want coach "bothered" while coaching his child!!!. Coach said it was best parents season he had ever had as no one bothered him all season!
