Totally agree, great season by the Lady Gamecocks and wishing Blakely great success with the Atlanta Beat.
BTW, The Florida Gators won the overall SEC Championship, the Gamecocks won the SEC tournament.

Popped in - thought a few facts were in order...

  • USC won the SEC championship. To win the SEC championship you have to win the SEC tournament. [Source: www.secsports.com]
  • Florida won the SEC regular season championship.
  • USC eventually ended the year ranked #9 in the nation and went the deepest into the NCAA tournament of any SEC team.
  • Florida's regular season championship was the team's fourth in a row.
  • Alabama's woman's soccer program appears to be severely in violation of NCAA regulations. [Source: (1)]

(1) "In the SEC, they started training around January 10th. My daughters team trains from 7:30 a.m. to around 10:30 sometimes later, 5 days a week. They also have an optional session each day, you know what optional means, be there. The average practice has three coaches and 2-3 trainers."

Nobody in there right mind would discount what the gamecocks did this season 19-4-1 is truly a dream season. Mattern, Miller, Grimsley and the entire supporting cast . While looking at the SEC website I saw that they had the Gators as the SEC champions, and the Gamecocks as the SEC tournament champions. The website refered to both as SEC champions, if what I put was wrong I stand corrected. I guess soccer is like basketball you can be season champion, tournament champion or both. I did notice in one of the conferences you could have a losing record win your tournament and make it into the NCAA tournament.

I believe that is the conference that Sweet Feet is referencing above.

I think Sweet Feet was just trying to stress what it takes to play at that type of school and at that level. There are different levels of soccer in college also. From what i have seen over this first month and a half is you need to be in the best shape you ever have and then some.
