I'd throw in a joke, except I just read that the PMSL Cup is being held in the Greenville-Spartanburg area the third year in a row...looks like hotels for all non-Upstate teams one more time...GSP really is the focal point of soccer at all levels, it seems.
This is only the second consecutive year. The Presidents Medal Cup was in Columbia for the 2007-2008 seasonal year and in Summerville for 2006-2007. It is being hosted by CarolinaFC for the 2009-2010 seasonal year (fall & spring) as it was for 2008-2009. It looks like the spring 2010 venues will all be in the Spartanburg/Welford area. Here is the web page. The venues for the spring are: Carolina FC Soccer Complex USC Upstate Old Canaan Rd

Old Canaan Road complex, has always had the nicest turf I have ever seen... 100% reel cut, lots of love and attention, with mandated time off the fields, to let them grow. Grass Nazi might be parrallel to the soup nazi from days gone by.

When I was on the board the problem was that a lot of the clubs didn't want to do the state cups. It was a lot of work for the clubs and they didn't always see the return on the dollar to host it. Really, the board would prefer the tournament to be in the Midlands every time because of logistics for everyone involved but that would not be fair to the other great clubs in the state. Ideal would be for SCYSA to purchase it's own fields in the midlands somewhere and hold everything there, but that would always be cost prohibitive. I think the way it is done now is the best way. They try to switch the cup between the three regions every year and if no club wants to do it in that region then they open it up to the other regions....
Here I go again!

I think we're both right, Coach P...I was referring to the announcement on the SCYSA web page that CFC will be hosting the 2010-11 PMSL Cup, which will be the third consecutive year.
I've got good news and bad news...

The good news is, CFC puts on a very good tournament--no complaints there! It would just be a nice touch if the lowcountry clubs didn't have to have the bulk of the travel expenses every year, that's all. I'm surprised that no clubs in the midstate or lowcountry areas have any interest in hosting any more.

I remember the last two state cups that were held at SSC..It is alot of work and SSC had to use surrounding fields to accommodate the amount of teams..State cups are broken down into different weekends now..Challenge weekend is 16 teams..Eight games each day..Classic weekend is definitely larger..It would be nice to have State cup back in the lowcountry..Coastal districts turn was last year and while Rock Hill is in the coastal district and the facilities were second to none..The three hour trip seemed further than the coastal area..To me.

Discoveries Soccer Club will be hosting the 2010-11 Challenge Cup. We are in the Mid District, not Coast. Thank you for the compliment on our fields, we are very fortunate.
Hosting the Classic Cup in its current format is challenging for any Club since it requires so many fields. Thank you to CFC for stepping up to meet the challenge.

I thought Rock Hill was coastal..Sorry about that..Truly a beautiful complex..I guess the bottom line is those within a club have to willing to do the work to hosts such events..Which I feel should be an honor and not a burden..Classic cup is a challenge to pull off but do we want to change a format so that only so many teams get in? I am kind of torn on this one..I like the group play format and would clubs offer to host even if it were smaller?
