This is a topic that came up many times when I was on the SCYSA board. USSF or US Youth Soccer did not do a good job, at the time 2004-2008 I believe, of tracking problem Coaches or Volunteers from state to state. The problem was that some state organizations didn't want to keep a list that would be shared and neither would the clubs always tell the state organizations about any problems. I know that on the SCYSA board we wanted all information and would be happy to give that info to another state organization if it helped in protecting a child. SCYSA error-ed on the side of the child and didn't worry if a lawsuit was filed because we gave out a name or warned another state organization. More organizations need to shed light on this problem instead of trying to hide it because of possible bad press.

I watched the program with my wife. As the father of four daughters, and a son, I found it very disturbing.

Ridiculous that some parents are blind to these issues because they are so focused on how these high-level coaches can get their children into the Olympics.

Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

I agree with you Hurst. I know of one coach that was very good at coaching soccer but had severe anger issues that sometimes came out on the players. SCYSA suspended him for life but he just moved across the border and started coaching again. Sad part was that all the parents in the next state ,including players crossing the state line to play, knew of his history and why he was suspended for life but decided winning was more important than their child's safety.
