RR... I will take exception to one of your statements

Specifically the last entry. Football has little or no cost because it is subsidized by the same people who shell out 2k for club soccer. Or by the general public who pay taxes to the school district but whose kids never get the benefit of participation.

HS head soccer coach stipend =$2000
Football head coach stipend ~ 50k (assuming the other half is AD salary)

CID will tell you ...

I have no issues with your argument regarding the regions just the statement that football is inexpensive, in fact it is one of the most expensive sports
