New info on all-state selection committee "no shows"
Being a Spring Valley soccer player, and in Region IV, when I saw the thread "4-A All State Region IV and V representatives a no show" I was a bit concerned. Not because I necessarily think that one of our players would have made all-state, but because I was confused, especially considering that I know my coach would have done something if he could have, and the posts sounded very accusatory. This being true, naturally I asked Coach Lea about it. Coach Lea is not involved in scsoccer.com and only reads the posts once a year.. for viking cup. However, he received various phone calls and emails about the thread because others were concerned about what was said about him and the Region IV coaches in general and thought that they should let him know. It was then that he did go read the posts and was a little upset about them and how people were addressing the issue. Like I said before, with him not being involved in scsoccer, I offered that I would post something for him. We started a new thread so that those who posted on the previous one would certainly see this. Basically, and I don't blame him, he wants to explain a little bit about what happened in his case and sent me an email with what he wanted to say about the matter. It proceeds as follows:
Also, my personal view on this.....I do not participate on message boards for a variety of reasons. I do not enjoy the tone (much fighting, bickering, name-calling, etc.) of many of the conversations. Also, many of the posts are done with little or no fact checking (incomplete at best) prior to writing (case in point - the thread you brought to my attention). Finally, I just don't want to be involved in the negativity that tends to permeate many of the discussion threads. Again, this thread serves as a perfect example....I could either play the game and respond to negative\false accusations (and I mean those that are constantly leveled at a multitude of players, coaches, and fans) or simply not dignify them with a response. I choose the latter. If someone really wants to know what I think\know\did\etc., that person will call or email me. I'm pretty easy to find. I coach because I love soccer, the players, the competition, the fun, the friendships, and all of the other positive aspects of high school sports. I try to stay out of the battles that take place behind the scenes.
His email also includes why he wasn't present at the meeting. He was invited, like most years, to attend the Clash of the Carolina's meeting, N/S meeting, and the all state meeting. He responded to all three invitations and even sent a second email to Kevin Heise with why he could not attend the All State meeting and to remind him of this. Therefore, it seems there was some lack of communication and organization on the selection of committee members. We aren't trying to point any fingers, just remind everyone that you might necessarily have all the information. I hope this doesn't cause more controversy, we truly aren't trying to. I just wanted to give him a chance to have a word in the matter.
