My reply will be simple for what it's worth. Coach Lea informed me earlier in the week that he would not be able to attend and that he had secured a replacement. The replacement informed me at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday morning that he could not attend -- which I did not get until "during our all-state meeting" of which I printed the response and took to the 4A committee in another classroom. That's it! No conspiracy, sorry!
We tried to select coaches on the following criteria -- SCHSSCA/SCACA membership; previous year/current year success; and service to SCHSSCA! That's it, no big secret.
We did have more than 50 coaches in attendance to select the various all-state teams. However, in my honest opinion if the Midlands folks want more representation, then the parents of those schools should not operate witch-hunts to oust proven, qualified and dedicated coaches, which in my estimation has happened at several Columbia-area high schools in the past year alone. It's sad that these parents have wielded this power to get rid of good folks, but so be it. That's the world we live in, but when they opt for this manner, then they accept the consequences of what non-membership means.
In addition, if the argument is coming from an Irmo parent, which I'm pretty sure it is, then please explain to me what attributes were exhibited by your daughter during the 2010 spring HS season to warrant All-State after a fourth place region finish and barely .500 record. I hate to be curt, but I'm tired of the innuendo and bashing of good people for personal gain and aggrandizement.
The players that WERE selected for all-state are deserving and should not be subjected to this questionning.
