Question. Did Coach Smith train the Hanna team? I ask because I have heard of one situation where a coach who has been coaching for years doesn't actually train the team and he may or may not have a teaching job this year due to the fact he was part time and his position was cut. In that situation, it really doesn't make much sense to have a non teacher who doesn't actually train the team be paid as a coach.

Yeah,There is nothing left to say except, T.L. Hanna is not only losing a good coach, but also an amazing role model who held young men accountable and did things the right way. The direction Hanna has chosen to go is the wrong one and Craig Joyner will have huge shoes to fill following one of South Carolina's BEST!!!!

so I'll ask again. Did Smith actually train the team? Not making any sort of judgement, I just know of at least one HOF coach that doesn't actually do what I would classify as coach his team. My understanding is he, the one I know of, does not have a teaching job any more but will still be coach(in name only) while someone else trains the team. To me, this doesn't make sense if there is someome at the school that wants the coaching job.

Do any of the Greenville area teams get "coached"? Most are just CESA by-products aren't they? Sure a little motivation and day-to-day stuff goes on during the spring, but none are really hands-on all year with these players. Kind of self-trained - courtesy of CESA - it seems with the abundance of good soccer players in this area. The Greenville area has always been a transient club-to-high school soccer area. Very similar to AAU basketball and other youth sports in the area. All that being said, I think that Hall of Fame coach deserves the chance to walk away from that program when he/she decides to - proof is in the pudding. Plus, the other coach on hand went belly up at previous schools.

always right,
so you mean high school teams don't practice? What I am saying is, there are "coaches" who only create the schedule, handle uniforms, deal with eligibility, etc. and don't organize/create a practice or give direction during the game. These coaches are getting the district supplement and there is a trainer that is being paid by someone (booster club I'm betting). I have a hard time rationalizing a person not having a teaching job with a district but then being paid as a coach but only to create a schedule, deal with uniforms and eligibility. In times of cuts--no step up in pay, possible furloughs--this doesn't make sense. Was just wondering if Smith coached or not.

I will add, my guess is that Smith did indeed do the coaching, just want to know for sure.

As a newer coach, I appreciate the mentoring and advice from Coach Smith. While we only met infrequently through coaching meetings, I appreciated the advice that he would provide newer coaches. I am shocked that Hanna has put recent wins/losses above the quality, integrity, and character that Coach Smith brings to a program. I am very disappointed in TL Hanna's administration. It lacks the character and integrity that Coach Smith has stood for for so many years.
