I think what everyone really wants to know is the classic "Why?" I assume that the NFHS had to have some reason for implementing a rule of all-white jerseys with no colored highlights, piping, etc. A simple explanation of how a colored highlight on a home jersey would affect the integrity of the game would surely appease all those who are upset by this rule.

If it is an issue important enough to make a rule, surely it will be easy to provide an obvious and satisfactory reason.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that the intent was to eliminate any possibility of similar jersey colors between opponents...for example, if my dark (away) jersey is black and my light (home) jersey is a light gray, and my opponent's light (home)jersey is white and their dark (away) jersey is a darker gray, we are going to look mighty similar when playing at my place.

Also, it eliminates "Argentina" style jerseys with equal stripes that are used for home and away...works OK until you run up on another team in the playoffs that had the same idea.

No inside information, but that just sounds reasonable for the intent of the rule...

Now, a little colored piping or cuffs/collars on an othewise solid-white jersey...your guess is as good as mine. I will wait for wiser minds to elaborate.

Okay, that would make sense, but...

Is this rule in effect for basketball, football, etc...?
I can't remember the last time I saw a basketball jersey that didn't have 3 or more colors on it.
What about football jersey with stripes on the shoulder?

Now, see, that's the difference between enforcing the INTENT of the rule (eliminating similar colors that can be confusing on the playing field) and enforcing the LETTER of the rule without seeming to understand its intent (interpreting "plain white" to mean without any little highlights that couldn't possibly lead to confusion with the other team).

Unless, of course, I misinterpreted the intent myself. Still waiting on the word from the wise to clarify.

I wish that the SCHSL would implement the "clock counting up" like the rest of the world uses for soccer. That's my gripe, for sanity's sake.

Not sure that's a SCHSL rule, per se...I've been places where the clock counted up. Doesn't bother me either way...40 minutes is 40 minutes whichever way you count, the officials still keep overage time on the field, and when you're counting down to zero, not even the soccer-inexperienced have to wonder about how much time is left in the half, especially since people have to transition between 45-minute club halves and 40-minute high school halves.

2. ot and pks in reg season games should be dropped asap!

Getting rid of OT and PKs in regular season should be the number 1 priority. 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie; like every league in the world. May be too confusing for the some of those in charge to understand though!!!

NFHS Soccer Uniform Rule Change Delayed Until Fall 2013

During the Oct. 25 NFHS Board of Directors Meeting, it was determined that the implementation date for NFHS Soccer Rule 4-1-1b will be delayed until the fall of 2013. The current uniform rule, which was originally adopted in January 2010, is written in the current rules book to reflect a start date of fall 2012. This rule will now read:

"The home team shall wear white or light jerseys and socks, and the visiting team shall wear dark jerseys and socks. Beginning with the 2013 fall season, the home team shall wear solid white jerseys and solid white socks, and the visiting team shall wear dark jerseys and socks. Prior to and during the game, jerseys shall be tucked into the shorts, unless manufactured to be worn outside."

The reasoning behind this change is to allow for an additional year for member schools to be compliant. This change will be reflected in the 2011-12 NFHS Soccer Rules Book. To reiterate: this rule will now be enforced beginning with the 2013-14 school year.
