In the hypothetical example I gave, I didn't just leave them off. They still play full time Premier, but one of the girl's parents said they simply couldn't afford it financially. No problem, I still have a full 26 player ECNL roster. Another had a 1500+ SAT and so many demands on her time academically that she needed the time to devote to her academic committments. Again, no problem. Both are fully committed to the game and still play full time Premier League. And... I still have a full 26 player ECNL roster.
Thanks. That certainly makes sense.
I knew that the ECNL was affiliated with US Club Soccer. I just found out this week that USYS has their own version...the USYS National League. I assume if your club was in the USYS National League, instead of the ECNL (US Club Soccer), you would still be eligible for State Cup and R3PL. Make sense?
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

ECNL is girls only and I believe is the evolving counterpart to the boys-only(?) USSF Academy program RobStrickland is speaking of.

A TEAM gets into the USYS National League through its success in USYSA Regionals and maybe Premier League (not sure there). You win State Cup, then Regionals to go to National championship, but winning Regionals also qualifies the TEAM to apply to compete in the USYS National League. (I know we have some boys' teams in USYS Nat League, perhaps someone knows exactly how a team gets in.) And the National League champion is given a berth in the USYS National Championships along with the Regional Champions. Acceptance into that league is based on individual team strength. Individual teams are not accepted into ECNL. Acceptance there is based on perceived CLUB strength.
At CASL Shootout (NCAA Final Four weekend) this year you will have the "normal" tournament going on, you will have an ECNL 3 game event going on, and you will also have USYSA National League games going on.
I guess, at least technically, if one of the ECNL teams also won Regionals last summer it could be playing R3PL, ECNL and USYSA National League all in the same year. That possibility will end next year.

So, what we know now is...
1. All boys in SC are free (as in not restricted by league or club affiliation rules) to participate in ODP except those on USSF Academy teams.
2. All girls in SC are currently free (as in not restricted by league or club affiliation rules) to participate in ODP without exception.
Is that correct? If so, then the question becomes... Will all members of the "new" ODP committee encourage and support those players eligible to participate in ODP to do just that?

Oops! And in SC that weekend you will have District ODP tryouts going on.

Finally a post that defines youth soccer to a "T". "To many venues for such a simple game". I firmly believe youth soccer directors, organizations base their decision making on let's keep throwing all that we can at them (parents) until they stop paying. Put your child in one league, play in a couple tournaments and attend a college camp each summer (unless someone has told you your daughter she is the next Mia Hamm)and call it a season.

A little closer look at the schedules... the ECNL teams are out of state (Raleigh) the weekend of the district tryouts (also Challenge Cup district playoffs) and out of state (Atlanta) the weekend of the state tryouts. The weekend in between is State Cup. Again, the question becomes... Will all members of the "new" ODP committee encourage and support those players eligible to participate in ODP to do just that?
(Since this is an ODP thread we won't go into where they are scheduled to be the weekend of Viking Cup.)

And if I were a serious soccer player that would be a no brainer. 3 games with the best clubs in the country, or a preseason tournament with some of the best players in South Carolina.
