Agreed, to an extent. But the best do both. And we're looking for the best, right?

To me, the concept of the "gamer" -- an athlete who trains poorly but plays great -- is way overrated AT THIS TIME. To many kids train hard and well in all sports for a "gamer" to survive. Besides, even a "gamer" can go 90 minutes during a game and only get a handful of meaningful touches. He can get THAT in 10 minutes of organized training.

Not to mention, demonstrate the type of commitment to learning and self-improvement that the game demands.
