Yes Mann and the other top teams moving up hava made the 3A race (esp. in upstate) pretty wide open. If both team can get there the D bracket final of Viking Cup would be a vey good preview of what shoud be a pair of upstate 3A contenders. Eastside will get to welcome the "new" kids from Fort Mill to 3A.

Only one word to remember in 4A, WANDO.

Chief, FM lost a lot girls due to graduation. I'm sure they have a talented freshmen class coming in......but I would think thats a step back for maybe 1 year.

I think both they and Clover will have to kind of recalibrate, due to graduation losses. Not saying they won't do it......but you might want to lower your expectations until you see the makeup of the new team.

The interesting thing for me and the FM girls will be seeing who steps up. Fort Mill has always had at least one girl that was a dominant player. Taylor Parker for the last couple of years. Prior to her, I'm having a brain freeze.....the girl playing at West POint now. (Ashleigh Sheets.....) Prior to her...Jen Ficklen and Danielle Schmitt. So who will be the Boss now?

I think you are thinking of Ashley Sheets. Great player, saw her score on a corner once, bent it right in, great shot. I agree FM will be rebuilding/reloading this year (as I pointed out ) and if not for the drop to 3A might have a tough time geting by Clover again this year. Clover lost several good players but they still have the star from last year so I expect they will be tough again.

Hard to say who will step up this year, they have some seasoned seniors and a stong group of juniors. The underclass group is harder to judge becasue with 11 seniors last year there were'nt any freshmen on varsity last year, heck they only had 4 10th graders on Varsity (2 of them starters).

As for the incoming freshmen we will have to wait and see if any get the nod to play varsity. Not sure any of them are ready to be starters this year, maybe-maybe not depends on team positional needs. There are a few in the group who I think can contribute at that level now, but like you said giv'em a year at high school and those GHMS girls are going to be intresting to say the least.

For now I will stand by my prediciton that FM takes 1st in region and NaFo is second. How far they go after that not sure yet but a good coach with a solid program (FM is one and NaFo is becoming one) can compensate for large turnover. Remeber two years ago, with only one senior FM went to upstate and took Mauldin to OT (if not for a goal in final 5 of reg FM win) before losing to the eventual state Champs. If they can do it then why not again this year?

If memory serves me correctly Sheets was either a fresh or a soph when Schmitt and crowd were seniors. Same thing with Taylor Parker......she was a fresh/soph when Sheets was a Sr.

So if the trend continues......

so where are those GHMS girls? Aren't they freshmen now?

The core of the group( 8 or 9 of them if I rememer right),that played on the same NC Classic team for a few years together as well as at GHMS are now freshman. They were 30-1-1 as seventh and eighth graders including several wins over HS JV squads.

Funny but you may be right there are a few big time players in that group who maybe taking the reins over the next couple of seasons. FM lost a lot of goal scoring with those graduating seniors and thats one thing those girls can do well.
