this is a joke right? irmo is most likely the best in the state, but in the country? and dorman 23rd? congrats to programs both well deserved, but you cant convince me that they are actually the best team in the country.

They're not REALLY the best in the nation... They're the best on the spring soccer states... which include Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming. To prove my point you never see any California team or Texas team on there. I think they're season is during the winter. But among these states, Irmo is considered the best.

You don't think Irmo could compete on the entire national stage? About the time I started at Summerville(1980)when we played in the Winter, either Coach Savitz(on his way in)or Coach Josef(on his way out) took Irmo to The Dade County(Miami Fla) Tourny--which they won twice.
This is about the time they started to become a power.
Obviously good coaching and good players.

When did I say I didn't? I think they are a good team and maybe even rank as high as in the top ten in the nation. But #1 in the nation? I don't know... there are a lot of high schools in the United States that we don't know of.. That's why to say they're number 1 in the nation is a little too much. We will never know of course. But they definately are a great theres no doubt there.

I am with you chikfila, Irmo is definitely not the best team in the nation. I am sure Manchester has also something to do with this, ha

Guy, that was 30 years ago.. what is your point?? Yes, they have the best coach, and good players, but they are down this year, (still the best in sc). but messi makes a good point, TX, CA do play in the fall/winter. Still, its hard to rank high schools from around the country, so being as popular as irmo is nationally prolly played a pretty big role in them being ranked 1.

Don't be so quick to judge. As I recall, Northwestern a few years ago were ranked at the top of the national rankings and proved it on a somewhat of a national stage in the Palmetto Cup by crushing Farragut 11-1.

My point is simple. When Irmo played the best Florida teams(at the time) in their back yard and won--TWICE--I think that said something about SCHS soccer at that time.
Look at the ESPN Rise top 50 during the winter and count the Florida teams listed.

I am certainly not an Irmo lover, but many I feel should be comparing Irmo to some other national powers rather than doubting they belong in the same conversation.

once again they probably had a top team in the country then. NW a couple years ago was that good, probably could have beat most small college teams. Ive seen irmo this year, and they are not that good.. my point is their reputation proceeds them, which is completely credible to coach savits(sorry if its spelled wrong), but if you've seen them play this year you know they are not a top team.
