Anyone can nominate a player, but I especially suggest any coaches who nominate a player provide as much information about the player as possible to Gatorade. Unlike the NSCAA selection process, GPOY is selected by a handful of committee members from Gatorade and ESPN Rise. Gatorade takes into consideration club as well as high school achievements plus community service, etc. (see nomination form). The prerequisite at this time, however, is the player must play for a high school team.

Oh I thought we were talking about an important POY award like the SCSOCCER.COM GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER FORUM POY. This Gatorade thing (sounds like something they came up with in FL  ) does not even look at the whole HS soccer season ??? seems fishey to me  sounds like it should be in the Club thread! Where the pro and anti ECNL people can bat it around to decide if you have to be ECNL player to be considered

To Chief's point, another difference between GPOY and NSCAA is GPOY selections are based on school year rather than calendar year. State selections for Fall Girls Soccer were announced in February, and the Spring selections are announced 5/10. That schedule allows Gatorade to select and announce its National GPOY 5/23 at the end of the school year. That does put a selection scheduling pinch on the Spring season. NSCAA, on the other hand, rather than looking at Fall/Spring looks at Spring/Fall of the calendar year (2011 high school nominations for this SC soccer season will be made in November) putting the scheduling pinch on those playing Fall soccer seasons. There is a trend in that list Coach P presented that could support Chief's comment that the thread could/should possibly be moved to the Club forum, however at this time for the GPOY nominations a player who plays high school but not club can be nominated. A player that plays club but not high school cannot. Quote:

Who said ECNL players aren't allowed to play high school next Spring? I haven't seen anything from ECNL that says that. In fact, we were told directly that we did not have to choose between club and high school.

"IF" Harry. Get it... "IF". As in "IF". Not to be confused with what Hard Headed said the Charlotte and CASL clubs have told their players, but "IF". As in "IF" CESA chooses over the next year to follow the lead of the ECNL clubs in the next state (whose players WILL NOT be eligible for nomination under current GPOY rules), or "IF" CESA decides maybe trying to play a 12-14 game league schedule plus tournaments with no practice during the week because of high school schedules just isn't working out, well, you know... "IF". Kind of like "IF" you believe what you were told "directly" today by the club will still be the direction and case a year from now even "IF" it doesn't seem to be working out in favor of the club's best league interests.
But, I will amend the statement by saying... "IF", for whatever reason there may be, ECNL players do not play high school next Spring, they will not be eligible under current GPOY rules.

12-14 game league schedule plus tournaments with no practice during the week because of high school? I'm still curious, where did you see that there would be 12-14 games plus tournaments in the Spring?
I'm sorry, I should have said "WHERE" did you see. Also, "WHERE" does it say that what Charlotte and CASL do CESA also does?

My mistake you're right, Harry, only the u-14 players would have the ECNL Spring league possibly affect participation. So, as with this year it should only be the tournaments that present a conflict, but not potentially preclude HS participation that would cause ineligibility. The Charlotte/CASL info is admittedly second hand, as I said, courtesy of Hard Headed. Kind of like I accept as fact you were told no choice would have to be made. I'll see if I can track Hard Headed down for a confirmation.
By the way, this time a year ago I would have come on this site and sworn to you that in fact we had been told the U-17 ECNL teams would not be playing ECNL as U-18.
