Why the heck isn't it required for coaches (at least the travel ones) in any sport to have this so that when we encounter an injury we at least don't make it worse but so we also know the signs when it's not just something that rubbing a little dirt on it will take care of. Most hospitals do free clinics for this. I know it's a random thought but it's always bothered me.

Unless it has changed, part of the licensing courses leading to a license required by SCYSA does include at least some basic first aid training and recognition of injury types so the coach knows what he/she can address on the field or know when to call for help. That said, It does amaze me the number of coaches/managers that don't know what's in a team med kit, or even if one exists, until it's needed and don't carry player medical info/profiles in the kit to each game. One would think the clubs would be more active in ensuring coaches participated in those free clinics mentioned as well as ensuring the managers properly stocked and carried the med kits and player info to every event including practice.
