South Carolina ODP Families,

South Carolina ODP Administrator Chaz Ballish Regueiro has resigned from his duties as ODP Administrator effective immediately. South Carolina Youth Soccer would like to thank Chaz for his passion, dedication and work within the Olympic Development Program. Moving forward all administrative issues and questions will be handled through the state office and South Carolina Youth Soccer Executive Director Sam Okpodu. All coaching and player issues and questions will be handled and should be directed to the South Carolina Youth Soccer Technical Director of Coaching Education and Player Development Greg Vallee. Please see the attached document as it outlines the current structure of the South Carolina Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program.

We look forward to continuing to serve our membership as efficiently and professionally as possible.

Yours in Soccer

Gregory M. Vallee

If you were the ODP Director, list one or two changes you would make.

Mine would be this. If you made the Region III team last year, you don't have to try out for the State team the next year. You are in the pool.

I found it odd that people who made the Region III team in June or July had to tryout for the State team a month or two later.

Just my 2 cents!

ODP in our state is a sad shadow of what it can and should be.

1. I would bring Mary Bynum out of retirement.
2. Do away with club coaches and bring college coaches back as ODP coaches

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not sure what the issues were, but, just in my opinion, the changes this year didn't address many of the issues we had and I certainly like having the college coaches instead of the club coaches involved

1. Assign the MOST qualified and dedicated coaches (from wherever) to the lower age groups, where they can have the greatest impact.
2) Actually EVALUATE kids on an ongoing basis, rather than granting what amounts to a lifetime membership to kids based on their performance as 12-year-olds.
3) Develop an actual list of milestones and metrics for BOTH trainers AND trainees to fulfill as part of the process.
4) Reduce "scrimmage" time; increase off-the-field learning about tactics, fitness, etc.
5) EVALUATE the overall program based on something more relevant than on-the-field results.
NOTE: My only problem with college coaches working with older kids is the inevitable de facto "recruitment" of prospects. Some (by no means all) college coaches find it difficult to draw a line between the dual roles.

I am fine with club coaches at the developmental age. But, when it comes time to choose players for sub-regionals and the state team, I see it as more of an issue. Certainly, there should be no club coach who is coaching the same age ODP team. I believe that is happening now, and I don't see how they can not be biased when they know their own players best.
