The figures come from the SCHSL "Rules and Regulations Governing Contests 2011-2012" on page B-64. And yes, my analysis was flawed in that each official is entitled to mileage of 45 cents per mile with a $9 minimum adding a min of $7 per player of cost for the 3rd ref for the season. Unlike club soccer, SCHSL does not differentiate between referees and AR's per the document referenced above. Football, baseball and softball refs are paid at different rates based on the position worked (base vs field, etc.) but not soccer. Hmm!!! I am not aware if schools have to follow this regime or if they can pay more for center ref in a 3 man system. But budgets being what they are, I seriously doubt that they would. Can anyone who has been involved in paying hs soccer officials recently respond to this?
